Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is roasted malt, oak, chocolate, brandy, green apples, soft vinous notes, dried red fruits, and booze. Flavour is above medium sweet with a roasty bitterness, sharp barrel notes and alcohol. Body is medium to full. More clumsy barrel aging from Kees, rough and sharp with some pleasant elements from the excellent base beer gasping for air. Gets a bit better as the beer is allowed to breathe more and the recipient gets (slightly) used to the agressive sharpness.

Black, bit of creamy brown head. Heavy solventy smell first, cheap brandy. Underneath some sweetness. Very soft, nice thickness. Taste is heavy solvent at first. Opens up to coffee, dark chocolate, some bitterness, some brandy, wood. Not bad, not good.

23rd September 2020 Opaque dark brown beer, small and short lived bubbly dark tan head. Smooth palate, just a hint of viscosity. Reasonable fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts, a nice touch of dark chocolate ganache, but it's not that sweet. Smooth brandy is obvious, well integrated and some what ripe tasting. This one has picked up some dank old wood from the barrel, doesn't dominate, but it's there. Smooth fruity finish. It kinda comes together at the finish and ultimately is a good BA RIS, but I can't help but wonder, with a slightly sweeter dark malt base and a slightly less long in the tooth barrel, well this coulda been a contender.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up online. Pours black-brown with a dense, cascading foamy tan head. Great depth, lots of barrel character, plenty of dark fruits, burnt wood, jammy berries, bittersweet dark chocolate, a little earthy bitterness and woody tang. Full bodied, lightly chewy, with fine to average carbonation. Lightly warming finish, a little sticky, more ash, torched barrel, dried and lightly tangy berries, baking cocoa, a nip of fudge and vanilla. Really delivers overall.

0.33 l bottle from 'Ace Drinks', best before March 2021, cellared for almost one-and-a-half years. Pitch black with a thin, light brown layer on top of it. Sweetish, malty, slightly roasty and a little boozy aroma of praline, coffee, hazelnut, some licorice and brandy. Quite sweet, malty, moderately roasty and a little fruity taste of praline, coffee, hazelnut and some apples, followed by a medium long, moderately roasty-bitter, slightly boozy finish. Medium to full body, very smooth and slightly oily mouthfeel, very soft carbonation. Nicely barrel-aged RIS from Kees, not too boozy or aggressive.

Bottle. Black. Oak and brandy dominating the aroma. Soft vinous notes. Malty sweet flavor with dried fruit, vinous, oak, lots of brandy. Amazing what barrel aging can do with a beer.

29/VI/19 - 33cl bottle from De Hopduvel (Gent), shared @ Abeel's place, BB: III/2021 - (2019-912)
Clear dark brown to black beer, nice solid creamy brown beer, stable, adhesive, leaving
bit of lacing in the glass. Aroma: lots of alcohol, overripe banana, nice roast, fruity, slightly oxidized. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: lots of alcohol, brandy, calvados, nice roast, sweetish, some dark chocolate, quite some green apples, ooh, is this the famous one which is all that green apple talk about? :p Aftertaste: lots of alcohol, pretty bitter, reminds me a lot about the De Molen B.A. beers, some unripe melons, more alcohol.

Black with small lasting light tan froth. Brandy forward aroma, overripe apples, caramel and roast. Sweet brandy booze and wood. Green wood flavour, roast, brandy booze. Creamy, chewie mouthfeel. Quite boozy, quite a lot of alc heat. Nice but not entirely balanced.

33cl bottle from Malt Attacks in Brussels. F: no real. C: black, opaque. A: dark malts, boozy, chocolate, woody, bit green apple, bit solvent, cocoa. T: rich dark malty, cocoa, chocolate, bit green apples, woody, vinous, dark dried fruits, raisins, brandy, full body, almost no carbonation, not complex with solvent/green apples aspect, yet still enjoyable for me.
