Poured from a 750 ml, batch 2 bottle. Aroma is very malt forward with lots of caramel and toffee notes. Some light toasted bread wiht some burnt sugar notes. Some raisin, fig and date notes. Light oak and cognac character with some light alcohol notes. Pours a slightly murky brown with some auburn hues and a medium sized, thick, creamy tan head that exhibits really nice retention as it slowly recedes to a thin film that lingers on the edges. Moderate lacing and long legs. Flavor is very sweet with lots of malt and cognac notes. Layers of caramel with some toffee, toasted bread and brown sugar. Lots of grape notes, raisins, figs and dates. Some medium light oak notes and moderate cognac with moderate alcohol spice in the finish. Lingering cognac, caramel and sugar. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied and somewhat silky with moderate carbonation. Low astringency and moderate alcohol warmth. Overall, the beer is not as hot as I was expecting but its also way sweeter than I was expecting. Its bordering on sickly sweet and the cognac notes seem to accentuate it. More heat, but more sugar and less fruit as it warms.

Bottle, batch 1, thanks to Ben! Pours clear reddish chestnut, medium creamy tan head, nice lacing. Aroma is rich malty dark sugars, dates, molasses, brandy. Flavor is pretty sweet, light plus bitter, rich and decadent. Full body, rich creamy mouthfeel. Surprisingly not hot. This is a sipper, and a dangerous one.

Bottle at RBBWG 2016 in Antwerpen, bottled in December 2014. Slightly hazy, reddish amber with a tan to white head. Sweetish-malty aroma of caramel, honey and raisins. Sweet, malty and minimally fruity taste of caramel, brown sugar, molasses and raisins, followed by a medium long, slightly bitter, warming and rather boozy finish. Medium to full body, oily mouthfeel. Nice, but rather unbalanced.

Joint bottle with Martinus. Obtained in a trade with sfr26. 650 ml. bottle / good sized sample @ RBBWG V. Pours quite murky dark amber brown pretty much no head, different appearance from what I expected. Overall, very different from what I expected. Nose is thick syrupy mocha, mocha, molasses, dates, molasses, sugar, huge amount of sweet dough, sugar. Taste is very thick dough, dates, sugar, dates, vanilla, warming, candy, huge amount of dough, bread, sugar, dates, molasses,… Thick dough body, dates. Interesting, sweet enough that you don’t notice the ABV. Interesting and nice even if not what expected. Really huge on the sweet dough.
