The first 2017 release in our boundary-pushing release of one-off Abstrakt beers is here!
An imperial stout brewed with cacao and coffee, AB:22 has spent two years in darkness, drawing complex and indulgent flavour from the Speyside whisky casks in which it has resided: chocolate ganache, cold-brew coffee, vanilla pods, molasses, chocolate-covered raisin, fudge sundae, espresso martini, toasted coconut… this is one of our most intense and decadent barrel aged stouts, ever.

Bottle shared at a tasting at Tom L's place. Black, brown foam. Dark chocolate, vanilla, roast, whiskey, coffee, wood, sweet, liqueur, fudge, some dark fruits, full-bodied, rounded, a bit of warming alcohol. Really great.

Bottled 375ml (from BD)
Opaque colour, small brown head. Sticky roasted coffee aroma with whiskey. Full-bodied. Toasted malty, vanilla (fudge), whiskey and cacao in the flavour. Sweetish, hides alcohol quite well. Nice BA stout.

Thanks Martin! Quite black. Pungent, really pungent complex malty aroma, classy, mostly dried figs, sweetish. The taste is full, with very well integrated whisky barrel notes, great maltinesss, more figs, heavy and clean, ends like "griotte" - pralines filled with cherry liqueur, showing off an interesting fruitiness, but light alcohol too (quite okay for 12.5%). Fantastic body, simply a tasty, well made imperial stout.

Thought I had it before, but apparently didn’t… Really nice on draught, interested to see how the bottles at home will turn out!

Bodney Towers Bottleshare. Thanks to Paul. Opaque dark black - brown beer, small dark tan head. Dark chocolate and coffee nose, Airy palate, mildly dry, decent fine carbonation. Rich but fluffy dark malts and dark chocolate. Touches of fruity coffee and earthy coffee. Light whiskey on the back end, gets a little bitterish. Airy finish. Nice but lacks the sumptuousness of the best. Let's see what a couple of years does to this one.

On tap. Black body with a thin brown head. Huge cocoa and bourbon aroma followed by chocolate, caramel and nutmeg. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, nutmeg, catamel, bourbon and floral hops. The strength is obvious bit the alcohol is not harsh. Complex beer for sure. Great winter warmer.

On tap at Brewdog Leeds. Pours black with medium brown head. Bourbon in aroma, chocolate, some fruit, raisins, molasses, bit spicy. Sweet. More complexity in the middle would be nice, but on the other hand it's not too heavy or too hard too drink. Oily. Full bodied.

On tap. Pours black with a short tan head. Aromas of molasses and other dark sugars, syrupy dark chocolate, vanilla, chicory and smooth roasted malts. Flavors of rich chocolate and graham crackers, vanilla, sweet coffee, a bit of coconut and lots of smooth rich roasted malts. Beautiful.

(Keg at BrewDog Helsinki, 20171022) The beer poured black. Its head was small and lightly brown. Aroma had burnt malts, vanilla and dark chocolate. Palate was full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were burnt malts, dark chocolate, ash and bitterness. Aftertaste was woody, burnt and bitter. A tasty burnt and strong brew.
