Our love for dark beers at the Kernel led to this beer, a 'Double IPA' of Porters. Our largest hop bill goes into making this intense and rich beer; our EIP turned up to 11. The dry hop brightens the heavy roast flavours, and the bitterness stays with you well after you have finished sipping.

Opaque black brown beer, good tan head. Smooth palate, airy and slightly soft, reasonable fine carbonation on this one. Soft creamy dark malts, good creamy sweetness, dark chocolate Malteasers and soft smooth cappuccino. Mildly tangy dark fruits. Touches of Mosaic candy fruits and a whisper of Sabro coconut. Smooth finish. Yep, this little corner of the beer style world is completely and utterly Kernel's.

33cl bottle, bottled 16/02/2021, BB 16/02/2022 – bizarre car achetée récemment chez Malting Pot – du coup, oui l’effet marqué de Sabro en prend un coup.
Brune foncée, col épais tenace café au lait quais moka.
Arôme est centré sur les malts – pas mal de chocolaté, voire quais grué de cacao concassé, houblonné nettement en retrait. Ces derniers donnent une touche un peu herbacée voire résineuse avec une petite touche de boisé classique du Sabro mais qui reste trop en retrait.
Palais est onctueux avec de suite une bonne surprise en bouche, c’est quasi comme boire un bol de cacao – épais en bouche avec retrait de caramel, grillé et pas mal de chocolaté. Le caractère des houblons est nettement plus discret sans verser dans le style Black IPA – l’age de cette bouteille y étant un peu la case, la Sabro est distinct et ici manque un peu à l’appel. Petite touche de résineux, assez sec et poussiéreux en fin de bouche.

Bottled 16.02.21. Black, creamy brown head. Smell is lovely hoppy and roasty. Soft body with an excellent bite to it. Flavourwise it's great, some lightly sweetness in the roast, with planety of bitter coffee flavours as well. Subtle hops. Great BIPA!

Bottle, online from the source. Pours black with a tight tan head. Aroma: deep roast, dark chocolate, liquorice hints. Taste: moderate sweet & bitter, huge dark roast character, more dark chocolate, liquorice, dark berries. Medium+ body with tight, fluffy carbonation. The coconut note in sabro hops works so well in dark beers. This is wonderful.

Bottle from Beer Gonzo. Handsome pour of opaque black with a sweep tan head. The aroma is rich dark roasted malt, bitter - sweet, dark chocolate, touch of coffee,, crazy tropical vibes, pineapple, coconut, lilt, pian colada, bounty bar, chocolate cake and jammy berry also. The taste is dry, bitter - sweet, rich roasted malt, peppery spice, dark chocolate, coffee, touch of liquorice, toothy, chewy, umami, chocolate covered coffee beans, nice tropical vibes, pineapple, mango, toasted coconut, bounty bar, earthy, slightly charred, jammy berry and a touch of alcohol with smooth, rich roasted finish. Fulsome body and moderate carbonation. Robust and incredibly flavourful. Balanced and packs a punch. Awesome.

Bottle from Cornelius. Black body with a thick beige head. Thick lacing. Aroma of blueberry and pine. Flavour of cherry, grapefruit and dark chocolate. Medium body with a smooth texture. Soft fizz. These India Double Porters from the Kernel are just superb. For me, it’s the style the brew best. I’d love to see the Kernel regularly brew some Double IPAs.

33cl Fles, veel dank Harmen! Zwarte kleur, fijne beige kraag. Typische geur van de zwarte bieren van Kernel, een veelvoud aan gebrande en geroosterde geuren, gebrande pinda's, verse koffie, gebrande mout, pure chocolade, hint van besjes, wat kokos, smaak is wel iets dunner maar deze gasten weten wel hoe je topspul maakt. Medium body.
