Bottle from a local bottle shop. Aroma is brown and dark malt with cocoa, chocolate, caramel, and soft roast. Lightly dried fruits. Bittersweet flavour, medium body. Tasty Bock with some welcome notes of chocolate.

Not much specific notes were taken ( sampled between ratebeer and brewver ) this one was an OK bock. Bit watery, not as flavorfull as the german ones i've had, but certainly a well made beer that's easy drinkable.

Dark brown colour with thin head. Aroma and flavour have some caramel sweetness. Full bodied and well rounded. One of the better Autumn Bocks.

Bierfestival Brugge 2019. Sampled draft. Amber. Nose is weird sweet stale malt and cobwebs. Taste is stale herbal malt with cobwebs, bitter weeds, medicinal, herbal, bready. Dull herbal bready affair. Meh.

The third one in the Musketeers' Bucket List Series, a dark 'bokbier' not coincidentally primarily sold on the Dutch market - the Netherlands, contrary to Belgium, have a well-known and well-described history of seasonal 'bokbieren' or Bock beers, of course. Attempted gusher but very slowly so, so completely manageable. Thick and frothy, foamy, bubbly, pale yellowish beige, tightly cobweb-lacing, bit irregular head over an initially clear, warm copper-coloured beer with deep vermillion-red hue, elegantly misty and somewhat deeper mahogany brownish but still basically red with the sediment added. Aroma of hazelnuts, hard caramel candy, old dry cookies, brown soap, halfripe banana and unripe medlar, earth and dry forest floor in summer, nutmeg, old chocolate dust sprinkled over equally walnut cake, dried mushroom touch, pan-fried ham and even very vague hint of (natural) rubber somewhere. Restrained fruity sweetness in the onset, half-green banana, apple peel and apricot impressions, malt fruitiness apparent from the start under medium strong, rather minerally carbonation; slick, resinous mouthfeel, bit soapy even, medium full. Hard-caramelly malt base, rather dry, with thoroughly nutty edges (pecan nut, hazelnut shell), a bit toasty-bitter, an aspect that becomes a bit more exposed in the finish when it teams up with an earthy and herbal hop bitterness. This combined bitterness lasts quite long and has a softly drying effect, but the caramelly-resinous sweetish malt factor also lingers a bit. Ends more bitter than sweet though, with a certain soapiness continuing, as well as powdery, phenolically spicy effect loosely reminiscent of old nutmeg powder. Interesting Bock, a bit more bitter and a tad more earthy than the average - 'commercial' - Dutch 'herfstbok', but in its general make-up more than credible, this could just as well have been made by a smallish to even medium large Dutch brewery… Musketeers are still doing well, especially now that they have inaugurated a brand new brewing house in my old Waasland region, but it did surprise me that they opted for a Dutch-style Bock to continue this Bucket List series, as there is as good as no audience for this in Belgium and not many Belgian breweries have attempted this (Achouffe must have been the first with their Chouffe Bok 6666, continued to this day under Moortgat if I am not mistaken). Not an unpleasant beer, but feels a bit clean and resinous even if this goes for most (traditional) Dutch Bocks as well; so far, this Bucket List still fails to make a lasting impression, contrary to those magnificent Special Editions of Troubadour Magma these sympathetic Musketeers make each year.
