Tap at Mad for Beer in Rome. Black color, gassy ivory foam pretty low. Nose is chocolate and grass. Mouth: sweet cocoa with a super warm alcohol and grass finish which recalls menthol.

On tap @Mad for Beer (Rome). Nera, densa, impenetrabile, schiuma beige medio-leggera. Al naso note di cioccolato, cacao, caffè. In bocca è dolce all'attacco con finale amaro medio. Corpo pieno, carbonazione medio-leggera. Un po' spenta, ha poco carattere.

Bottle shared by someone at BBF 2016. thnx ! Pours very dark brown, big, off-white head. Smell is grainy, bit bitter, sharp. Taste is creamy, dark malts, sweet. Not as roasty as the style usually is. It’s more like an imperial ( yet less sweet ) double.

Tap. Shakespeare’s, Sheffield. Clear, deep chestnut brown. Cigarette paper head, that clings admirably to the glass. Nose has dark chocolate. Tobacco leaf. Liquorice. Thick caramel. Notes of black cherry and fudge. Taste is fudgy sweet. Some woody, charred bitterness. Silky, medium to full mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. A little boozy warmth, although not any detriment. More fudgy sweetness on the finish. Closes woody, cocoa bitter. Very drinkable impy.

Brewdog Shepherd Bush. Keg. Opaque dark brown beer, a few pale tan bubbles. Palate is smooth and fairly dry. Reasonable finr carbonation. Smooth malts, mild creamy sweetness. Much licorise ensues, bitterish. Touch of dark fruits and then even more licorice. Some alcohol spice on the smooth dry finish. Pretty drinkable.

Keg at Queens Arms, Kings X. It pours jet black with a small tan head. The aroma is rich, bitter - sweet, chocolate, fudge, toffee, Millionaires shortbread, dark fruits, roasted malts and jam. The taste is smooth, rich roast, sweet, chocolate, chocolate cake, plum, date, blackcurrant jam, some alcohol warmth and treacle with a smooth finish. Full body, fine carbonation and oily mouth - feel. Drinks under the abv. Pretty smooth and well - rounded.
