Bottle at the Porterhouse in Covent Garden. Clear chestnut colour lasting beige head. Sour hoppy malty alcoholic aroma. Pine hops. Very malty. A little thin. That’s a surprise. Big wild not exactly subtle or balanced but certainly entertainment in a glass.

Bottle thanks to T-Broise. It pours clear deep mahogany brown with a small white head. The nose is toasty brown sugar, wood, resin, toffee, banana bread, fruit cake and some umami. The taste is toasty, sweet, sticky, umami action, brown bread, booze, dried fruits, wood and resin with a warming finish. Full body, moderate carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Quite a lot of booze and umami. Not sure on this one.

Bottle split at the 9.49 CBC boost tasting, Clerko, 03/06/15 from Callans Dundalk. Chestnut brown/amber with a decent light beige covering. Nose is toffee, dark fruits, spice, brown sugar. Taste comprises sweet licks, toffee, dark fruit peel, dates, cake mix. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with an earthy hop presence and light warming booze. Ok barley wine, pretty simple but decent enough.

Clear deep red - amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Smooth palate, slightly soft and semi dry. Malts are smooth with unsweet toffee and a little drying. Alcohol spice. Mild skunky hops, trace of marmalade. Semi dry finish, not bad but does show the alcohol.
