Cask @ 2nd BBF, Deep dark brown color. Pure chocolate in the aroma with some roast. Very full bodied. Roast and pure chocolate in the somewhat alcoholic flavor. Long roastbitter finish. Very good!

(Gravity cask at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 23 Nov 2012) Dark brown colour, almost black, with brief, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with chocolate, black coffee and hints of ashes. Malty, roasted taste with notes of dark chocolate, black coffee, ashes, dried fruit and a generous cacao bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, with balanced sweetness. Tasty and well balanced. Very nice.

Gravity Dispense at White Horse Parsons Green, Old Ale Festival - 23/11/12. Dark black with a thin tan head that dissipates to the edge and leaves a thin film. Nose is roast malt, cocoa, dark fruits. Taste comprises light chocolate, raisens, a touch soapy - a little too much so, burnt notes, dark malts, spice. Medium bodied with a fair bite, soft carbonation, sweet finish. Was expecting a little more from this one - not enough depth.

Gravity dispense at White Horse SW6. It pours very dark brown with a tiny bubbly off-white head. The nose is roasted malt, earth, subtle caramel, faint plain chocolate and medicinal notes. The taste is earth, roasted malt, toast, dark fruit, pretty big on the spice, rather meaty, restrained chocolate and underlying alcohol. Med-full body and soft carbonation. Underwhelming...

Bottled at Monk’s Café Wallingatan, Stockholm. Cloudy near black, beige head. Spicy bitter chocolate aroma. Mid sweet and a bit fruity with some almondy caramel, but spicy bitter chocolate dominates. Salty bitterish finish. More true Belgian style than anticipated from an English brewer.

Bottle at Mes Tasting. Pours clearish, dark brown with an off-white head. Malty aroma with some chocolate and subtle Belgian sugar. Pretty sweet with notes of coffee, licorice, tar, toffee and alcohol. Medium to full in body with explode-in-your-mouth carbonation. Warming finish, some sugars, alcohol and subtle roast. Heavy booze character. Pretty good.

Cask at The Marble Arch Inn, Manchester 20.01.11 Pours very dark brown with a slim white head. This is thick and heavy in the mouth, alcohol showing a little. I’m getting a few hoppy burps very soon on and there is a little stinging bitterness. I like this but I find at times it’s just a bit harsh and slightly rough around the edges, the chocolate is a little more suppressed than I would like, there is plenty of roastiness. All in all very good but not without it’s faults. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.6

At Borefts BF 2010. Black thin beige head. Now that is good. Lovely choc, dry choc. But got the character of Belgian yeast. Simcoes are lovely. Lovely simco finish. Great hop.
