Bottle with appreciation to boutip. Pours a dark cherry wood finish with a small tan head. Aromas are a sweet mix of brown sugar, dark fruit and a touch of peat. Flavor is very good and this is my new favorite Scotch Ale. (If only I could get it regularly and inexpensively...) Anyhow, the peat and smoke flavors come through very nicely and play off the sugar and fruit. At the same time, there is a bit of a nut flavor that helps smooth things out. I’m guessing that my attraction to this is the simple fact that the sweetness is held in check so nicely... unlike so many other scotch ales I’ve tried that end up just being a cloying mess.

50 cL bottle. Pours hazy dark brown with a creamy, tan and dense head. Dry and mild spiced to vague butterscotch aroma. Sweet malty, light roasted and subdued oxidised and mild fruity flavoured. Light breadish and sweet caramel malty. Lasting sweet and caramel malty finish. Nice one.

341 ml bottle from HogtownHarry; Bottle says 9%ABV; Nose was lagery grain and brown sugar when cold changing to toffee, brown sugary sweetness, and light smoky and hoppy notes; clear red-brown with a medium, glass-lacing, off-white head; flavor has light hop bitterness in the background, some yeastiness, and molasses and dark fruit notes; very different combo of flavors.

12 oz. bottle shared by tjthresh. Pour is brown, with slight ruby highlights. Clear, with some carbonation and a 1/2 inch dirty white head. Aroma is scotchy, nutty, with some faint woodiness. Taste is thinner than I had expected, though the Scotch taste and woodiness come through nicely. The finish has a slightly unpleasant soapy/cardboard thing going on. Nice beer, thanks for sharing Tom.

Bottled. A deep red beer going towards light brown with an orange head. The aroma is sweet malty with strong notes of caramel and straw. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel and wood, leading to a dry finish. Thanks to David (Rastacouere).

Bottle at LCRBM3. Clear chestnut colour with lasting deep beige head. Attractive dry malt aroma, bit of spicy raisin. Thick in mouth. It has a salt and vinegar aroma. It’s ok, a bit intense and thick.

Test vom 10.9.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 10,11,9,10,10,10 - 10,00

Small yellow head, deep red-amber beer. Alcohol, fusels, roasted aroma’s, dried fruit on straw. Caramel flavour, hand-made toffees, butterscotch but no diacetyl, autumn leaves, sweet and fruity esters. Sticky, alcohol in the palate. Excellent, even when sample slightly aged. Complex beyond belief for its ABV. Grand merci!
