Ratebeer Odense Tasting Old Lambic and more. Funky aroma with stone fruit, wood and barnyard. Dry and tart fruity and funky flavour.

Hapu, väga puuviljane, funky, kuiv, tsitrus. Ok.

Bottle. Color: Lightly hazy golden, white head. Aroma: Hay, wood, funky, subtle fruity. Taste: Moderate to over moderate tart, hints of vinegar, very smooth mouthfeel. Fruity citrus (lemon, grapefruit), quite a lot of wood and tannins, hay. Lightly bittery notes of old hop. Subtle funk. Dry finish. Medium body, below average carbonation. Another very nice Tilquin.

750mL bottle at Moeder Lambic - St Gilles, pours a hazy bright golden orange with a tiny white head. Aroma brings out big barnyard funk, leather and gentle citrus skins. Flavour is funky, with lots of barnyard funk, gentle citrus, and leather. Funky, leathery and lightly citrusy finish. Excellent.

One of the three ‘family tree’ geuzes released by Tilquin last week, this one representing his mother, Marie-Cathérine; made with the same composition as the ‘father version’ (Cuvée Jean-Paul) at least in age distribution of the lambics, but the lambics themselves of course come from different barrels. Snow white, thin and open head, retaining well around the edge over a misty peach blonde robe with pale orange glow. Aroma of oxidized green apple, damp hay, gooseberry juice, wet wood, dry leather, rhubarb, old dried grapefruit peel, very dry old sherry, bitter plant seeds, some very vague smoky hint faraway in the background (burnt straw). Tart onset but in a notably ‘malse’ way as compared with Cuvée Jean-Paul, cooked gooseberry, halfripe plum and green apple, with fizzy ‘champenoise’ sparkling; full, rounded body, soft bready core under ongoing tart fruitiness and strong yoghurty lactic sourness, with especially green apple lingering. Woody tannins and a late earthy old hop bitter moment further deepen a bone dry finish, with the hop bitter element being more pronounced than in the other two ‘family tree geuzes’. Excellent, noble, mature geuze, for me personally the most ‘profound’ of this new trio. I hope Pierre Tilquin has a big family, I am looking forward to meeting all the aunts and uncles as well, if this charming theme is continued…

29/IV/23 - 75cl bottle @ Tilquin English Beer Fest, BB: n/a (2023-375) Thanks to all for sharing today’s beers!

Pretty cloudy orange beer, small creamy white head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: nice, quite some brett up front, lots and lots of pears and apples, sour apples, some cider, a bit floral, peppery notes, pretty complex, lovely stuff! MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: nice, fruity, dry, gentle acidity, a bit sweet, acidic, lemony touch. Aftertaste: bitter, wood notes, earthy, lovely stuff, sourish, complex, bitter finish, nice, lovely beer, really!

Bouteille 75cl, merci Pierre lors du Tilquin Enthousiastes BBQ, bouteille comprenant 40% de lambic de 1 an, 30% de deux ans et 30% de trois ans. Dégustée en parallèle de la Jean-Paul.
De couleur similaire aux autres - sur un doré/pâle avec un col épais crémeux mousseux blanc-cassé qui s'estompe rapidement mais offre un début de visuel somptueux.
La différence est notable en bouche, et cette version me semblait de loin la plus complexe. La complexité de la barrique prend ici un tournant nettement plus prononcé que sur le Jean-Paul tant au nez que en bouche. Je pense, sauf erreur, qu'alors que le pourcentage de lambic est égal à la Jean-Paul, ces lambics ne proviennent pas tous du même brasseurs. Je note une fine douceur presque vanillée et fruitée qui me semble quasi plus prononcée que sur la version Cognac (ici, pas de passage en fût spécial). Le tout s'entremêle avec le caractère complexe de l'assemblage pour une acidité en toute subtilité avec un caractère funk discret - retrait léger sur les malts, cave/cellier.
