The Meerts Tilquin series was made by fermenting fruit that had already been used once. Elderberries were fermented for a period of 4 months in a blend of 80% 1 year old Meerts and 20% of a blend of different 2 year old lambics. Meerts (or March Beer) is a low strength lambic, which was originally produced with the weaker wort obtained from the rinsing of the grains. Unfiltered and unpasteurized, they are refermented in the bottle.

Purplish colour with a slight haze. Tart, with light leather bug notes and a nice bit of elderberry sweetness in the finish for balance.

A taster shared with Josh, Matt, Phill, and Ryan during FHF with priceless Rachel's (yup, again!) help in organizing all the mess with glasses. Appearance: nice red copper. Aroma: funk and nice semi-sweet berries. Taste: same. Overall: good.

Bouteille 37.5cl, BB 09/06/2031.
Couleur cuivre, col fin blanc.

Blushing dark peachy colour with no head. A fine mix of Tilquin sharp funk and tart elderberries. So intense.

375mL bottle, pours a hazy dull orange amber with a small white head. Aroma is quite funky, with gentle elderberry skins, musty berries, and a little horse blanket. Flavour is fruitier than expected from the nose, with tart elderberries, medium barnyard funk, some earthiness, and some faded berry skins. Nice stuff for second usage, with a solid base to support it.

Bottle: Poured a dark golden color lambic with a small foamy head with limited retention and no lacing. Aroma of fruity notes with some tart funky ester. Taste is a mix of dry sour flowery notes with some tart funky ester with light oak presence. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. Nice drinkable fruited lambic with sour flowery notes.

Bottle, Cellars Bentleigh. Clear rose amber with a fat coat of white head that lasts a while. Aroma of berries, the barn, old lemons. A little body. Low carbonation. Not as fruity as suggested by the aroma. Moderately sour with a dry, almost tannic finish. Not the deepest but a glamorous swigging lambic.

Bottle from Radbeer. It pours clear pinkish / blush with a small white cap. The aroma is musty, rather funky, mucky barnyard, haylage, manure, berry skin, elderberry, jammy, tangy and sherbet. The taste is crisp, dry, spritzy, puckering, tart, sour berry, berry skin, elderberry, granny smith apple, bramble, sour candy, fizzy cola bottles, floral, deep funk, dry oak, nip of acidity, lactic, barnyard and damp hay with a zingy berry skin finish. Medium body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. Zingy, vibrant, fruity and funky. Lovely combo. Well judged.
