B.C."H." over foxy ruby head. Very inconspicuous nose, bit of malts, and strangely enough, a bit mouldy. Bitterish, leafy, and faintly hoppy flavour. Some malts especially retronasal, with a faint dark bready implementation, and reminiscent of horsechestnut aroma. Light, light body, watery. It’s too shy, too withheld, too... British? And - a Christmas special ale at 4.7% ABV PUH-lease! How about 14.7%?

Not even going to look at my review of the original, stronger Rosey Nosey: this is a new beer. 500ml bottle: BBD 31 Jan 15, poured into a batemans badged UK pint sleeve at home on 15 Nov 14 during my Pre-Christmas christmas tasting evening: shared with no one! Chestnut body, clear and clean looking, large uneven white pillow for a head. Biscuity malts with molasses in their centre, with a rich fruit cake on top in both the nose and taste. Not really Christmassy in that there seems to be no spice or wintery quirkiness, just a good solid ’sit by the open fire’ sort of feel to the brew. Thought this was fine: not happy with Batemans for dropping the ABV of their XXXB, but can not complain about this beer. Not as good as I remember the original, but more than OK.

April 2007: Brown 500ml bottle. Poured into a Gordon’s thistle glass (twice). Looks a picture, clear, dark terracota with a fine slightly off-white head. Aroma is sweet and Christmas pudding smelling, caramel and cinnamon come to mind. Tastes of hops and malted biscuits, fairly bitter, but the fruitiness in the aroma tempers the flavour to produce a very good beer. The mixture of flavours stay in the mouth, 4.9% isn’t heavy, the mouthfeel reflects that. All in all, a very good beer. I had three pints of this beer with my Christmas dinner in 2006, I don’t choose any old beer to have on that day!

500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. This new 4.7% version makes Rosey Nosey available (unlike the former stronger version) for the first time in Norwegian grocery stores. Beautiful clear copper colour, moderate to low head, slightly off-white. Aroma of malts, toffee and dust, a hint of red fruits. Refreshing zesty flavour, fruity notes with some toffee and caramel, but not sweet. Decent bitterness in the aftertaste. Enjoyable. A good starter beer for a Christmas beer tasting, before you attack the stronger (Vinmonopolet strength) Norwegian and Belgian stuff.

500 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark. ABV is 4.9%. Copper coloured beer, moderate off-white head. Malty aroma with notes of caramel, hints of grassy hops too. Malty flavour, medium sweet, caramel and a hint of fruit (preserved cherries?). A dry hoppy bitterness in the finish. Okay.

50c bottle from Morrisons, Bracknell. Pale chestnut with a frothy cream head that fades quickly; caramel aroma; soft caramel malt taste; and a toastty finish after the slightest hint of hops. Nothing Christmasy going on here, move along please.

Bottled: Reddish brown colour with a cream head which quickly fades; sweet fruity aroma; taste balances this with a burst of hops leaving a fruity aftertaste.

Dark copper with a small bubbly head. Has a small sweet winter fruit aroma and taste but its relatively smooth texture is its most pleasant aspect.

16.09 ounce bottle. Copper colored with a brief beige head that disappears immediately. Baked apple and caramel malt nose. Crisp tangy toasted malt flavor upfront. Bready malt undertones. Faint floral hops in finish. Rather average.
