They might not ring a bell in the northern part of Belgium or abroad, but in Brussels they are part of the cultural heritage: Les Snuls! This collectif of comedians was known for their self-mockery and typically Belgian humor filled with absurdity. They have been making us laugh for 33 years now, and to celebrate this we have been asked to brew them a beer: Santa Belgica! Of course the name is in reference to one of their well-known sketches.
It is a blond beer of only 4,5% alcohol, highly drinkable and with a nice but moderate bitterness. Her hoppiness is at times fruity and at times floral. She's a beautifully balanced beer that has been created to drink amongst friends while rewatching the delicious sketches of Les Snuls! Santei!

Bottled 21 Sep 23. Straw colored, medium hazy body, with a big, fluffy head. Aroma of pine, citrus, lemongrass, fresh herbs, flowers, some stone fruits, some doughy yeast. Tastes similar, crisp and fresh, with even more pine spiciness. Medium, a bit creamy mouthfeel, with an average carbonation. Finishes dry, bitter, long-lasting piney, citric, floral, a bit yeasty. Once again outstanding DLS stuff for the lower ABV and once again it held up so well after almost 10 months in the bottle. Drinks extremely crisp and fresh, with beautiful piney and citric hop notes. The body is quite light, but there's no need for more as this is so well balanced. Score: 8 / 4 / 8 / 4 / 16

Bottle drunk watching one of the infinite Batman reboots, in fact it's The Batman. Straw amber with light haze and a tall, cloud-like head. Nose is very citrusy, mild grain, dry notes. Flavor is a dry farmhouse one, with quite some tasty citrus hoppiness. I like the extra complexity of the farmhouse note mid palate. Pretty good session beer!

Goudgeel bier met schuim. Smaak is licht bitter en kruidig met iets van gras, wat citrus en iets pittigs. Uitstekend.

Pale blond colour with thin head. Aroma and flavour hint at a Bohemian pils. Slightly yeasty too. Simple and ok.

BB 21/09/2024, bottled 21/09/2023.
Pâle, col crémeux blanc bien tenace.
Arôme est plaisant et donne de suite de quoi reconnaitre la marque de DLS. Note un peu céréales, funk, houblons nobles – fourrage, pain frais fraichement toasté

16/I/24 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker), shared @ home, BB: 21/IX/24, bottled: 21/IX/23 (2024-37)

Clear pale yellow beer, small creamy white head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: yeasty, lots of malts, a bit sweet impression, more malty, grains, hay. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: good bitterness up front, grassy, a little piny, very dry, spicy touch. Aftertaste: bitter, spicy, dry, herbal, very grassy, a bit piny, resinous, some grapefruit peel, more malty in the finish. Decent.

Hazy blond colour, white foam. Dry, grassy, typical de la Senne profile. Hoppy bitter finish. Easy drinkable.

New 'session pale ale' by De la Senne, bottle from Etre Gourmet. Thick and foamy, egg-white, pillowy and dense, firm head on a misty yellow-straw blonde beer with lively but very small-bubbled sparkling. Aroma of soggy crackers, dry hay, dried grapefruit peel, lemon zest, green banana, white pepper, dried white bread, fresh young wormwood leaves, tonic water, strawbale, spring blossoms, unripe pear, gypsum. Crisp, dryish onset, hints of green banana and green pear with a touch of unripe peach, some very restrained sweetishness but quickly drying out, with very fine-bubbled if very active and minerally carbonation; soft, almost 'fluffy' mouthfeel, soft bread pulp and somewhat sharper grainy edges under ever increasing, initially floral and wormwoody but eventually bitterroot- and tonic water-like, extremely long hop bitterness with retronasal effects of mugwort, white pepper, grapefruit juice and dried lemon peel, ending earthy, very dry, very bitter and very quenching. Feels like an old school Belgian 'bitter blonde' or a hoppy saison, very 'beery' and very Senne, with that lovely earthy streak to it and perfect carbonation; packed with flavour for its ABV, not unlike that great Taras Boulba from the same producer. Lovely quencher.
