This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a nice looking hazy golden orange to yellow color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. There was some light lacing sticking and then sliding down into the beer.
The smell had a bready sweet yeasty blueberry.
The taste was basically the same as the smell with a light sticky sweet blueberry blended bready aftertaste. A light sweet sticky wet finish enters in at the end.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body. I didn’t find this one too sessionable but it wasn’t necessarily a sipper either. Different, definitely.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good saison which is what the bottle said on it. I’d have it again.

750mL bottle, batch 1, drunk on 1/21/14.
White head against a very sunny orange body. Head recedes slowly to cover, clarity is medium to medium-high.
Nose is blueberries? Is this one of these things where you see that it’s brewed with blueberry skin yeast and so you’re expecting blueberries and you project them in to the nose and flavor? I don’t know, but it smells like blueberries and raspberries. Fresh and authentic, though, with soft, floral hops (heather, light thyme) and a soft pale maltiness. Very subtle aroma, even the blueberry notes are not powerful. Surprised there isn’t any acidity or more typical Belgian esters, but nonetheless, it still works fine. Reminds me more of an American golden ale brewed with blueberries, FWIW.
Sweet malts and tart berry notes open the flavor, which exhibits very low carbonation both to style and overall. Carbonation could certainly be more engaging, which would help with the somewhat sweet, sugary fruit and residual sugar flavors. I will say, it’s very interesting that there are no actual blueberries in this, but regardless, this needs to be more dry, more tart or more carbonated. It’s pleasant, but very underwhelming. I do appreciate that when you see a special release that boasts of being fermented with wild blueberry yeast, it’s hard to keep your expectations low, but nonetheless, it’s just too sweet.

Mega Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to Leighton. Hazy gold beer, tidy pale cream coloured head. Palate is light and softish. Minerally fine carbonation. Somewhat.lagerish malt. Light floralness. Whisper of hop. Light semi dry finish. Just another saison but inoffensive.

Bottle thanks to L-Dogg at the super-mega tasting. It pours hazy golden with a small white head. The nose is wood, hay, straw, mustiness and citrus peel. The taste is lightly tart, doughy, earth, straw, vanilla, crisp citrus, apricot, peach and just a touch of spice. Medium body and fine carbonation. A fairly straightforward farmhouse affair. Alright.

Bottle at the get of the floor and man the fuck up Josh tasting, thanks to LKS, 03/01/14. Hazed orange with a moderate off white covering. Nose is tangy citric fruit, orange pith, grass, light bread dough, yeast notes. Taste comprises orange pith, lemon sherbet, straw, earthy, light spice, yeast esters. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light bittering in a grassy closure. So so saison.

Bottle shared for Jack in London. I got this rare bottle from Provisions in Northampton. Pours mostly clear gold with a creamy white head. The nose has some dough and lemon meringue with hints of other citrus. Medium sweet flavor with lots of doughy malts and further citrusy meringue, some straw. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel. Sweet finish with more doughy malts, hints of dry berries, hay, creamy meringue. Not bad. Bit simple but very drinkable.

Sampeld at Kyle’s tasting. A fair amount of hops. I do not detect any blueberry, and it is my understanding there are not berries in this beer. Earthy yeast. decent.

Bottle from the Brewery. Pours a slightly hazy light golden color with a decent sized white head that persists for a while leaving sticky lace in its wake. Smells of light sugary caramel, pepper, a hint of funk and a touch of berry. The flavor is funk in your face at first sip, but that quickly fades to a sweet honey and candy sugar flavor. Some pepper and berries linger midway before a bit of a light lingering fruity sweetness. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet light bubbly mouthfeel. That subtle berry flavor and aroma is wild. I really liked this beer, but its not exactly what I think of when I think Saison. Its a little sweeter and less bubbly, but damn it is tasty.

Pours gold into a tulip. Bright white head with medium retention recedes to hug rim. Mild caramel aromas. Soft and sweet with dry fruity yeast and caramel upfront turning to marshmallow in the medium length finish. Interesting, but I was expecting some blueberry and/or tartness...

750 ml bottle with batch 001 stamped on the side. Is my mind playing tricks on me? Because I swear I smell berries…. Dark hazy, dirty gold in color, no head. No blueberries were harmed in the making of this brew, yet other than the yeast, I swear I get berry. The flavor is elusive. Yeasty, bready malts spicy pepper and a moderate herbal note. Maybe a pollen or honey note? Active carbonation and a medium body. I like it but it’s not my favorite from Mystic by far.
