bottle in nice round cardboard tube with description of the bourbon and beer. Black with a film head. pours rather thick, looks good, the head is very small but still looks good.
aroma is heavy on the bourbon with strong chocolate notes, some licorice, velvety. some dark caramel, faint wood. very heavy aroma but not boozy or stingy. like it has settled well. fainter dark fruity notes (but not like a quad, not the yeasty stuff)
Flavor is heavy bourbon, licorice, faint coconut, aromatic wood, roasted malts, faint salt licorice, dark chocolate, faint peppery note, very faint cedar woody like oxidation like note - but it's not in the way, adds character. super soft texture and flavor, really heavy but at the same time very well blended and rounded. i think they had this one on wood as long as it could handle, and the result is very very good. definetly a level up compared to the normal bourbon county stout. refined, exclusive, distinct. pretty awesome.
nowadays people stuff all sorts of things in the stouts. this one is just the imp stout and the barrel - still a lot more complex than all the artificially flavored ones.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a dark brown foamy head with some retention and some lacing notes. Aroma of chocolate notes with some woody bourbon notes and some vanilla. Taste is also a mix of chocolate notes with some woody notes, some bourbon and vanilla with some noticeable residual sugar notes. Body is full with an oily texture and good carbonation with some discernible alcohol notes. Solid barrel aged stout with noticeable quality barrels used on this one.

Bottle poured into a snifter. Pitch black pour with a small brown head. Aroma is chocolate, bourbon, oak, licorice. Initial taste is all of the above with dark roast coffee. Fades to bitter dark chocolate, coffee, bourbon, and earthy undertones. Slick, full body and light carbonation. This is fantastic. Happy 40th birthday to me.

Poured from 500mL bottle. Very dark brown with small beige head. Really nice whiskey barrels, feint wood, medium body, a touch boozy.

500mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma has a wonderful bourbon barrel character, plenty of wood, some vanillin, and molasses. Flavour is complex and wonderfully integrated, with a lovely bourbon barrel blend, gentle vanillin, molasses, wood, and even a hint of smokiness. Wonderful barrel blend.

Dark brown. Thin head. Rich chocolatey character, with a lot of bourbon. On the palate, big bourbon. It's got good body, and a light fruitiness along with the chocolate, and that adds to the complexity and drinkability here. The finish is robust bourbon, and a fair bit of alcohol. Good complexity and balance to this.

Not as good as the Angel's Envy version I had on the same evening. Bourbon in the aroma, sweet but overly roasted malt. Too much bourbon character.
