A robust, yet surprisingly refreshing porter, Mud Puppy is a favorite of dark beer lovers. Characterized by a thick, rocky head and luscious chocolate-like nose, the malty profile is balanced by liberal hopping for its style

Bottle @ home. Opaque black color, medium sized beige head. Aroma is malts, appears a bit dusty, maybe cocoa powder or lightly earthy. Flavor is malts, dark malts, some roast but then again those dusty flavors a bit. Aftertaste doesn't have the dusty flavors, I get some roast and roasted malt bitter with hints of dark chocolate. Maybe some brown malts too. Decent body, medium carbonation. Ok.

Sampled at Meridian Pint, pours a translucent black with brown edges and plenty of frothy, beige head. Nose has malt, molasses, earthy, licorice, chewy grains. Flavor is more cut and dry, malt, crackers, toast, some licorice but not as sweet as the nose lets on. Finishes almost totally dry, smooth.

Very dark brown with lasting head. Aroma and flavour have a lot of bittersweet cocoa and chocolate. Pleasantly dry finish.

I got this bottle in a trade with Grizzly Adams. Thanks Cole!
It pours a dark brown with close to a 2finger head of off white foam. A few minutes in and the head retention is very good and there's some spotty lacing.
The smell has notes of coffee, roasted malt, and milk.
The taste has coffee and a roasted/burnt malt flavour up front with some milky flavour in the background. The roasted malt is quite bitter but works well with the semi sweetness of that milky flavour. It finishes very dry, from the roasted malt, and leaves a nice lingering aftertaste. Nice Porter with a medium mouthfeel and fairly low carbonation. I'm certainly glad I got to try it.

Draft at Valhalla, 9th Ave, New York City. Pours very dark brown with a small off-white to beige head. Aroma of malt, milk chocolate, light roasted coffee, vanilla and dark fruits. Moderate sweetness and roasted bitterness. Medium body, slight oily texture, soft carbonation. Finish a little dry, milky chocolate.

Bottle in MV - picked up in CT. Pours rich brown with a creamy, tan head. Nice roasted malt aroma, with ample chocolate, some burnt toast. Medium sweet flavour with nice, gooey chocolate character, some raisins, brown bread, fudge, subtle burnt earth bitterness. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Pretty good balance in the finish, with nice chocolatey depth, further roast, cocoa, soft ash, dried berries. Great porter overall.
