Beer Number #3 tried at the Clitheroe Beer Festival 2025. Going through the dark beers I want first at this festival. Dark brown and fairly regular to begin with, some berry notes amongst the roasted, with a smooth texture too. Its liquorice does come to the fore in its aftertaste.

Hand-pulled half-pint in the beer garden of the Bridge End Inn, Ruabon on 31st August 2024. Black bodied, tanned foam on top. Malty and fairly dense body wise, pleasant in the afternoon sunshine.

Cask at the Southampton Arms, London on 25th March 2022. Deep sepia with tan foam and spot lacing. Rich roasty aroma. Dry, roasty malts in-mouth with coffee bean and a hint of smoke, and citrus notes. Roasty finish with spicy citrus. Full bodied with an engaging texture.

Third, keg, shared with Finn at Big Hand Alehouse. Covering beige head that laced quite well. Black in the glass. Sweet malty smell, chocolate scent. Mid-sweet chocolate flavours, on a backbone of lactose. Lightly roasted malt-driven finish. Easy drinking stout. Satisfying. (Chester 26.01.2020).

Delt med Rune. Svart. Lavt tett skum med litt farge. Tynn teppelacing. Lett lakrisaroma. Smaken melkesjokolade. Lett tørr avslutning. Litt uvariert.

Tap at Big Hand Alehouse, Chester There’s coffee and chocolate in the nose of this one, together with underlying maltiness. Pours a very dark brown with a small beige head. Sharp tasting with medium carbonation. Liquorice and candyfloss attempt to compete with the dominant chocolate flavoure in the mouth. Finish is bitter chocolate grounds. A nice stout all round.

Cask @ JDW Montgomery's Tower. Pours dark, small beige head. Roast and liquorice on the nose. Taste has a light chewy sweetness alongside some roast, chocolate, light liquorice. Drying close. Decent.
