Mild as a beer style is one of the oldest in the British brewing tradition. As its name suggests, Mild is mild in terms of alcohol and hop bitterness, the superb flavours of this style of beer are driven by the use of top-quality crystal and roasted barleys. Theakston Mild is almost certainly one of the original two or three beers brewed by Robert Theakston when he first started brewing in Masham in 1827. As a beer style Mild was very popular in Britain before the last war but since then has been over-shadowed by the growth in popularity of lighter ales and lagers. The malty flavour of Mild makes the ale an ideal accompaniment to sandwiches and ploughman lunches.

Smooth decent mild ale. Not to watery as some of them are
Dark and almost black color with thick creamy off white head. Mild and mellow aroma. Medium (light) and creamy body. Soft carbonation. Mellow sweetness and a mild bitterness. Toffee, some cold coffee and a bit bready flavor.

Keg at the Mermaid, Porth, Cornwall. Chestnut coloured with a large creamy head. Takes a while to develop, but unusually for a keg beer it does. Chocolate and toffee up front, then a light roastiness, then a developing fruitiness. Maybe a little watery, maybe a little sweet, but overall not bad at all for a keg mild.

Keg at the Black Bull, Penwortham. Pours clear brown, thick, creamy head. Light roast aromas, little else. Taste is watery, thin, light roast again. Thin finish.

Black and creamy. Slight roasted aroma with even a bit of smoke. Plain tasting and simple but certainly a decent session beer.

Keg at Billingham Synthonia cricket club. Black-brown colour, creamy off-white head and roast malt aroma. Taste is roasted malt, fruity, chocolate, coffee, mild bitterness. Smooth, light to medium bodied, medium carbonation. Quite OK.

Black Country Beano. Keg at the Jolly Crispin. Clear dark amber - brown beer. Good creamy coloured head. Palate is light and crisp. Fine carbonation. Minerally airy malt. A little tang in the super mild dark fruits. Very mild citrus. Touch of paper. Light dry finish. Not terrible but vastly inferior to the superior cask beers in the same pub.

Keg @ The Windmill, Southport. Darker brown with a small glow and a creamy head. It has a mix of regular and dark malts, all quite pleasantly mild tasting as you might expect! Crisp keg pour.

Not completely black, has a slight red glow. Maintains a thick creamy head but without much flavour below it. Relatively smooth to drink.

An average kind of mild, not bad considering how cold it was served.
