Black reddish with a fluffy head. Toffee, caramel, raisins, dates, slightly metallic, lemon, basement notes. Fruity malty sweetness, slight metallic bitterness. Light bodied, watery texture, lively carbonated, dry caramely toffee finish. A rather sweet but aromatic Schwarzbier.

Bottle @ Thüringia. Pours amber Dark with a White frothy settling head. Plenty of grains, Chocolate and Dark fruit. Mild roast. Smooth. Decent. No bitterness. 3.4

Bottle 50 cl. Pours a clear, dark orangey brown with a small, off-white head. Subtle roast and a hint of licorice in the mouth. Medium body, lightly sweet, dark malts, some soy sauce and a decent, late bitterness. Clean and well made if not exactly one of the most aromatic Schwarzes. 081020

Schwarzer Esel aus der Vereinsbrauerei Apolda, Flasche von Nahkauf, Weimar. - Satt schwarzbraun mit rötlichen Reflexen; reicher beigefarbener Schaum. - In der Nase schlanke Röstaromen, Mokka, süßes Karamelmalz und dezente Hopfenherbe. - Antrunk weich und rund röstmalzig mit voller Malzsüße, zart säuerlichem Brot, Anklänge an Lakritz und Vanille. Schwache, ein wenig dumpfe Hopfenherbe. Milder rezent, vollmundig. Im Abgang ein wenig Bitterschokolade und milde Hopfenherbe. - Die Beschreibung malzaromatisches, liebliches und süffiges Schwarzbier trifft es schon. (21.6.2020.)

21/12/2019. Bottle courtesy of Gabriel. Pours dark brown with a good size slightly frothy off-white head. Aroma of milk chocolate, light roasted malt, toffee, light coffee, touch of liquorice, vanilla and ash. Medium sweetness, very light bitterness. Moderate body, slight oily texture, soft carbonation. Some roasted notes to finish. Not bad.

Bottle looks simple but okay. Beer in the glass deep black, small head. Starts mild, malty, roasty, not too sweet. Mild earthy notes, modest dry. Finish well balanced, malty-roasty. Okay.

Bottle 500ml. @ home. [ As Apoldaer Schwarzer Esel ].[ Courtesy of æHD’er ]. Clear medium to dark red brown colour with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly to fully lasting, off-white to light beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, dark malt, caramel, sugary - caramelized malt, caramelized malt, thin malt extract. Flavor is moderate sweet with a average duration, sweet malt, dark malt, caramelized malt, thin malt extract. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. [20170629] 5-4-5-3-10
