Bottle at home. Almost clear golden color, small white lacing. Smell and taste malts, saison-ish yeasty a bit but also a note of citruspeel tart-bitter. Average body and carbonation. Meh. 5-3-6-2-10

Golden beer, white foam. Dirty, lemony and tart along with some citrussy notes. Not very well balanced, a bit messy.

Pours unclear blonde. Smell is tart, sweaty socks. Taste is full, tad sweet ( malty), sharp, mild tartness ( sweaty socks) not great.

Another Homo Beerectus beer from d’Oude Maalderij, a Belgian style blonde, bottle from Geers near Ghent. Off-white, moussy, quite thick head leaving behind dots of lacing and slowly showing gaps in the middle; ochre-tinged, peach golden robe. Alas, very ‘stinky’ aroma: rotting potatoes, spoiled tomato soup, DMS (overcooked cauliflower), soggy old breadn minerals, raw turnip, white pepper, mud, piccalilli and a dash of orange peeping through. This ominous aroma is unfortunately mirrored in the taste: lots of fruity esters in the onset, sweet and sour with a very ‘dirty’ sourness running underneath – like spoiled milk and very unambiguously pointing at infection. Red apple and green pear notes do not succeed in distracting from this overall off-putting infection flavour; body remains supple and a tad resinous, medium carbonated, with a bready malt base under a white pepper- and lemon zest-like hoppiness. The spoiled soup and rotting milk effects, however, remain dominant, completely mutilating whatever this beer’s original taste was, or what it was intended to be like. Impossible to finish, one of the worst cases of infection I had in a long time, but obviously not intended this way so deserves a second chance, I guess…

Bottle from Dranken Geers, Oostakker. Pours clear yellow with an unstable, thinning, foamy, white head; little lacing. Aroma of lemongrass, hay & straw, sourdough, unripe apple & mandarin, wheat, vinegar even. Taste is light to medium fruity sour, unripe apple, lemon, elderberry, a tad 'soapy' wheaty; bitter impressions of hay & grass; never really providing a sweetness to soothe that initial sour taste. Faintly grassy & I'd even say peppery hoppy finish, lingering fruity tartness, sourdough & hay, bit of an astringent metallic touch. Medium body, slick/oily texture, soft carbonation. Sessionable, yes, but didn't go well with some food (have to check up on my pairing anyways); that sour character is too strong.
