(Bottle) Dark reddish copper colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, vinous nose with notes of caramel, dried fruit, raisins, figs, dates, oak wood, dark rum and vanilla. Malty, fruity, vinous taste with caramel, dried fruit, sultana raisins, figs, rum, oak wood, vanilla, burnt sugar and a warming, boozy finish with a mild spicy bitterness. Full body, sweet. Warming, harmonious and surprisingly well balanced for its strength. Great beer!

Bottle bought at Taste of Tops in Tempe in February 2019. Almost clear copper with a small head. Sweet with dried fruit, rhum, raisin and some malt. Kind of smooth and with well hidden alcohol. A nice one.

12oz btl pours a thick, raisin amber with some thin white head. Nose is huge with candy and dates and raisins. Plenty of booze too. Flavor has candy and raisins, brandy too, bruleed oranges, triple sec. Full bodied, sticky, boozy finish. 7 3 7 3 12

Was wary approaching this one, but damned if Avery hasn’t made an almost-17% rum barrel-aged Belgian “quintuple” as drinkable as a nice, easygoing, well-aged dubbel. Tons of brown sugar, date, caramel, dried apricot, plum, and oak, with a rummy back end and a gooey, bittersweet fade. God yes it’s sweet, but the liquor makes the sweetness familiar and palatable, like a nice shot of well-crafted sippin’ rum. Would never guess the ABV. Nice pint, probably better than it scores.

Bottle. A- Rum, fruity, sweet, figs, dates, A- Dark copper color, clear liquid, minimal head. T- Rum, figs, dates, raisins, sugar, sweet. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, smooth finish. O- Way too smooth. With a year of age on it, this 17% beer drank like 4%. After a day of drinking big malt bombs I thought I could have one more. This little bastard put me over the edge and left me feeling like hell all night long. Dangerously smooth and drinkable. That said, it was one of the sweetest beers I've had in some time. Too sweet.

12 oz. bottle, pours a deep dark rusted red with a small beige head. Aroma brings out lots of candied sugar, Belgian yeast, some rum barrels, and a bit of alcohol. Flavour is intense, with loads of candied sugar, alcohol, more candied sugar, and a little rum. Sweet and boozy. Tough to drink.

Sample at 101 Beer Kitchen Dublin during the "Sixth Annual BA Brunch!" on 04/07/2018. The beer is a cloudy reddish-amber color with a medium thin off-white head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of spiced rum, malt, yeast and fruit. Full-bodied with flavors of sweet rum, Belgian yeast, caramel malt and ripe fruit. The finish is boozy rum and fruit. Pretty good beer all around.
