Can from lowcostbeer. Murky reddish brown with small beige head. Aroma and taste is malty with caramel and fruitcake, touch of alcohol. Bittersweet tangy finish. Nice.

Keg at the Cock Tavern - Hackney. Pours clear ruby-brown with a creamy, off-white head. The nose holds dried fruits, berries, leather. Medium sweet flavour with well toasted malts, a little brown sugar and toffee, jammy berries, mild earthy bitterness. Full bodied, somewhat chewy, with fine to average carbonation. A little sticky in the finish, with brown bread, more toast, dried leathery berries, plum, raisins, pine. Interesting gear. Works pretty well.

Keg @ Sportsman, Huddersfield. Hazy amber-brown with a creamy head. It's a strong sweet-malty ale with some caramel found in both its aroma and taste.

Can from Beer Metropolis, Little Eaton, Derbyshire, consumed at home Sunday 4th March 2018 whilst cooking a Classic French Beef Daub and also cooking Chicken and Chorizo Lasagne.Mid/Dark brown in colour with a mid sized off white head. Deceptive beer the alcohol is quite well hidden. A nice bite but then some molasses, it's malty but the American hops differentiate this from a Barley Wine or typical strong ale. Its a beast that you appreciate and don't take for granted, but it will grab you if you don't treat it with respect. Lovely. A7 A3 T8 P4 Ov16 3.8

Keg at MK VHX, 16/11/17. Hazed reddish amber with a well appointed beige cap. Nose is sweet malts, spice, fruit loaf, dried prunes, brown sugar. Taste comprises candied fruit rinds, biscuit, raisins, cake mix, toffee, light spice. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a rising boost. Sippable number but lacks depth to the flavour.

Can. Turner’s, Sheffield. Not a black IPA. In fact, the blurb on the label states Imperial Red. Anyhoo, it’s murky, deep, reddy brown. Film and ring of sticky, pale tan head. Nose has baked apple and citrus. Sticky toffee. Some sappy pine. Taste is sweet and sappy. Turns punchy, resinous, oily bitter. Smooth mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. A tad boosty. Long, resinous, stewed citrus bitter finish.

Hazy deep amber beer, small pale tan head. Palate is light and fairly dry, good fine carbonation. Thin malts for a big beer, traces of malt cream and bitterish toffee. Mildly bitter orange marmalade. Fresher orange peel. Mild hop spice. Smooth dry finish leaves a modest bitter linger. Fairly simple stuff and hides the abv well making it easy drinking. Never a Black IPA though. American Strong or DIPA.
