This is Double Liberty IPA and yes it’s an imperial version of Anchor Liberty Ale. Double Liberty uses double the amount of whole cone Cascade hops to get to double the IBUs of Liberty Ale as well.

Bright clear gold beer, tidy cream colour head. Palate is airy and mildly dry. Smooth malts, mild creamy sweetness. Trace of spicy esters. Semi sweet floralness into a mild hop spice. Bitterness builds but never gets too much. A little bitter peel and resin in the light finish. Rich and nicely balanced.

opalescent orange colour, medium sized creamy off-white head; aroma of fruitiness (apricot, tropical fruits, maybe some berries), floral notes, some citruses and resiny notes; taste of syrupy sweetness with honey and fruity notes, which is almost perfectly balanced by bitterness (which arrives with some delay compared to the sweetness); great DIPA

355 ml bottle from Firma Bier.
Dark amber, clear body, with a big, creamy, off-white head.
Aroma of citrus candy, grapefruit, berries, peach, sweet apples, even some banana, biscuit, grass, some pine.
Taste with about the same aromas, with a very smooth malt backbone.
Medium, creamy mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes smooth, medium bitter, pretty piney, citric, also a bit sweet, with fruits and malts, a bit alcohol warming.
Tasty. Typical, familiar Libertaly Ale flavour, but fuller bodied and a bit more alcoholic. Drinks really smooth, very well balanced, IBU and ABV greatly hidden. Overall pretty much how I imagined an imperial version of Liberty, although I prefer the regular one a bit more.

A beautiful beer, a dark orange, a head is dense, medium and blond. Aroma has lots of hop oils, resin and pine, intensive, some flowers and caramel. Taste is strongly bitter with balancing sweetness, pine, resin, not fruits. Medium+ bodied, nice and lightening carbonation. Fresh. Not so good as Liberty Ale but tasteful beer, anyway. Strongly bitter, balanced. Double Liberty is dominated by hop oils and resiny pine without fruitness.

12 fl oz bottle from De Bierkoning, best before 8/2017. Clear, luscious, orangeish amber with a medium large, creamy, almost stable, tan to white head. Floral-resiny and slightly fruity aroma of pine, honey, biscuits and orange. Sweetish, resiny and slightly fruity taste of honey, pine and caramel, accompanied by hints of mango and orange. Long, sharp bitter finish. Medium body, very creamy and slightly oily mouthfeel, average carbonation. Whereas it looks beautiful and has an appealing mouthfeel, taste and aroma are a bit reserved and one-dimensional. Surely easily drinkable but these wonderful bottles and labels from Anchor always raise my expectations which are rarely met.

Pour is a clear copper with a large white head. Aroma is a nice pine hop with some caramel malt and a little sweet honeycomb in there. Flavor is some pine fresh hops but then a big caramel malt takes over. Another IPA where the malt bill is too heavy and outshines the hops. Finish has a fairly large alcohol presence to go along with the sweet malt. Glad to try it, won’t need it again.

Rated September 2015. Poured up on tap at Angel’s Trumpet where it exhibits a clear deep copper body that has amber hues and supports a light tan head of foam. The aroma offers up a moderate level of maltiness that’s malts and biscuit malts and some crystal malts and those are cut quickly by pine and floral hoppiness rounded out by a mild fruity vaguely hoppy sensation off in the background. The taste begins with a pleasing level of hoppy bitterness that’s centered around pine hops that have a thin resiny edge as well as bitter grapefruit hops. Just beneath the hops are a large dose of caramel malts, biscuit malts and crystal like malts. Pretty nice hoppy malt forward treat.
