Bourbon barrel-aged Belgian-style dark ale brewed with Cape gooseberries – 13.9% ABV

6 Geese-A-Laying is a return to the more classic dark and toasty winter ale. This variation spent time in bourbon barrels, adding toasty notes of oak and vanilla. Brewed with Cape gooseberries, this malty ale highlights notes of plums, dark cherry, and bright, citrus-like flavors from the namesake berries. Honk if you love good beer!

Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Aroma is fruity with solid malt notes. Toasted breads, crackers, biscuits, caramel, toffee with faint chocolate. Loads of raisins, cherries, plums, and berries. Light bourbon, alcohol spice and faint oak. Pours a somewhat cloudy, auburn brown with a medium sized, medium thick, tan head that recedes quickly to the edges where a small film lingers. No lacing and moderately long legs. Flavor is somewhat sweet with moderately strong malt notes. Toasted breads, caramel, toffee, nuts, chocolate and biscuit notes. Moderately strong bitterness. Light bourbon and alcohol spice with faint oak notes. Quite a bit of raisin, cherry, plum and berries. Light acidity. Mouthfeel is medium full to full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low, but present alcohol warmth. Overall, a surprisingly good beer. Lots of fruity notes with solid malt character that works well with barrel notes and light acidity.

750 ml bottle. Thanks Adam, dark brown color. Aroma shows Belgian candy sugar, spices, and odd yeast. Flavor even as of 4 years ago, wasnt good. Just a odd flavor even with the light Bourbon Barrel

Beer #100 from this brewery. Pours a hazy brownish-amber color with a medium light beige head that receded steadily to a film. Partial rings of lace on the glass. The aroma consists of bourbon, tart berry, vanilla and malt. Full-bodied with flavors of tart berry and cherry, oaky bourbon, malt and yeast. The finish is oaky with a tart fruit and bourbon aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

750 ml bottle. The beer is a warm medium brown. It appears pretty clear, maybe a little haze but it’s relatively dark. Very small beige head, fizzles away quickly. The aroma is much fruitier than expected. Lots of berry flavor. Some vanilla, spice and booze from the bourbon barrel. Light raisin. Pretty good caramel background despite the fruitiness. A bit floral. Taste is tart berries on top of sweet caramel. The barrel flavors kinda clash for me. Moderate oaky bitterness. Fairly boozy. Odd spiciness. Mouthfeel is somewhat thin and slick. Not bad really, but not my cup of tea.

Bottle@Chris and Ruth’s Pre-GBBF 2015, London - pours fuzzy amber brown with a beige head. Sweet malty aroma and taste, brown sugar, caramel, ripe and some dark dried fruits, some nice spices, bourbon infused wooden notes into the finish. Decent.
