Paying homage to its IPA roots with traditional dry hopping. We throw in columbus, cascade and chinook hops and roasty chocolate and crystal malts to give this beer its dark colour. Unrefined Indian jaggery sugar gives this beer its rich full flavour.

Bottle, Carringtons, Chorlton. Clear dark brown pour crowned with the merest of tan heads. Fragrant nose of roast, dark choc, hop and berry fruit. Gentle carbonation and smooth mouthfeel. Flavour started out sweet with powdery choc and roast predominating alongside some steadily building hop bitterness which lingered long into the finish. Decent Black IPA.

Cask at SIBA Beer X. Black. Big, tight, lasting head. Lots of citrus. Some spice. Dark malt roastiness. Long, bitter finish. Good.

Tap at the Earl of Essex, cheers to LKS for the heads up, 13/02/14. Dark chestnut brown with a well appointed beige covering that retains well. Nose is earthy hops, cocoa powder, light dung, orange sherbet, tropical fruit waft, brown sugars. Taste comprises biscuit malt, cocoa powder, semi dank hoppage, light spice, earthy, subtle tropical fruit tones, perfumed notes. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok CDA, not one Iād look to invest in again though!

Keg at the Earl of Essex - London. Pours clearish briwn with a lasting, creamy beige head. Lots of burnt bread in the nose, some cocoa, toffee and charred pine. Medium sweet flavor with more burnt toffee and pine, along with bittersweet baking cocoa, bread. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Balanced finish with sturdy light-roast malts, earth, baking cocoa, toasted pine, burnt sugars. Good take on CDA.

Cask at the Manchester beer festival deep brown... Thin tan head... Soft woody roast. Nose... Deep rich fruits... Some licorice .. Rich roast

Cask at Three Tuns. It pours hazy deep brown with a mediam light tan head. The nose is smooth roast, coffee grinds, pine, charred wood, dark fruit and toast. The taste is wood, leather, berry, charred toast, light jam, spice and a good deal of bitterness with a dry, toasty finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Nice work.

330ml bottle from Beermoth. And there was me thinking this was named after Strapping Young Lad! Pours a nice grainy black with a great earthy forest aroma. Taste is prickly dark hops with an assured malt backbone, interesting and lively, extremely enjoyable from beginning to end.

MOSI Beer Festival. Very dark red and noticeably strong, has a small head. Has a high bitterness with a lingering fruitiness in its aftertaste.
