This very special dark ale has been brewed in small batches and then matured in hand-selected, first-fill bourbon casks to give it its rich, rounded character.

Notes of brown sugar, orange oil and coconut are complemented by an earthy freshness from the hops, and the 30 days the beer's spent in oak have ensured a satisfyingly smooth finish.

Malt: I & G ale malt, crystal malt, amber malt, roasted barely
Hops: Super styrian
Maturation: 30 days in first-fill American bourbon barrels

(Bottle) Dark brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with dried fruit, figs, wood, brown bread, toffee, chocolate, caramel, butterscotch, some bourbon and a touch of ginger. Malty, fruity taste with notes of caramel, chocolate, bourbon, oak wood, wort bread, raisins, toffee, some ginger, burnt sugar and a sweetish finish with a mild roasty bitterness. Medium body, quite sweet. On the sweet side, but fairly tasty. Quite enjoyable.

Bottle from Beery Christmas advent calendar. Pours dark brown , some light brown foam on top. Nose is soft, caramelly, light smoke and a touch of peat. Fruity caramel. Taste is creamy, soft, lots of caramel and sweetness also there. Not that complex and bourbon barrel is not really that visible, maybe a hint of vanilla and light coconut but only maybe. Drinkable but could be more.

330mml bottle as part of the Beery Christmas 2017. Tasted on the 04/12/2017 at home. Dark brown colour with a minimal beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, cola, wood and biscuits. Taste is malts, bourbon, bread and roasted bread. Sweet and woody finish. Next one please!

Beery Christmas #3. Pours nice, slight head, very dark brown. Aroma is very clean, some malt and caramel. Boring. Medium body. Flavours are very one-dimensional, malts, caramel sweetness and bourbon. Some vanilla from the bourbon. Overall very sweet, seems like they took all the sweetness from their malts without any of the complexity. Some bitterness in the finish, still rather crisp and clean, hints of smoke. It's not really bad, just very boring and one-dimensional. Meh. Also, I agree that it gets worse and worse as it warms.

Bottle from Brewers Haven. Dark, near black, small foamy head. Aroma us mostly the roast malts, some if the earthy peaty notes. Taste too is squarely on the dark make, little evidence of the bourbon Barrels. Kind of weak

Bottle. A- Cocoa, raisin, subtle char, mild tobacco. A- Black color, dark liquid, light brown head. T- Subtle cheap bourbon, cocoa, iron, umami. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, metallic finish. O- Probably the best of the 3 cask beers I've had from I&G. A fair amount of booze at the start and not bad. Gets progressively worse as it warms. Starts to take on an iron like flavor.

330ml bottle in a posh box, drank at home on 9th Sep 2017, 9 days after it's BBD. Poured into a Brew dog badged stemmed glass it looked fine, a good deep amber, the head however soon turned into a wisp and collar. Aroma was a strange mixed bag, both citrusy and yet with dark chocolate and a hint of coconut. The taste was the usual Innis & Gunn sweet mess with a bourbon and oak like trace. Tried to enjoy it, but even my sweet tooth struggles with this breweries beers (I buy them when they are cheap, just in case I find a good one).
