This Russian Imperial Stout is dedicated to Georgy Zhukov, arguably one of the finest generals of World War II. Huge in body with strong flavors of espresso, chocolate and molasses, this unique iteration of Zhukov’s adds roasted hazelnuts and vanilla to impart even more complexity and depth of flavor to this massive, jet-black stout. In the immortal words of Marshal Zhukov himself, “Есть вещи в России, которые не являются, как они кажутся.”

Bottle shared thanks to kermis. Black with small dark brown head. Lots of molasses, dark coffee, tobacco, licorice, vanilla, walnuts, blackberries, fudge, light cardboard. A bit less molasses and leather than the regular one, and obviously this has vanilla and sweet nuts. Quite sweet and medium bitter. Full bodied with soft carbonation, but less thick than the regular version.

42nd Floor Bottleshare. Opaque dark brown beer, good dark tan head. Palate is airy and semi dry and has decent fine carbonation. Soft rich dark malts. Spicy dark chocolate. Nicely integrated vanilla. Tangy nuts. A little whiskey spice. Smooth spicy finish. Nice but would have been even better without the nuts.

Bottle. Black with a tall, dense, mocha colored head. Aroma of dark chocolate, molasses, vanilla and roasted nuts. The flavor is big and complex echoing the aroma. Some licorice in the finish. Full boded, sweet yet bitter.

Bottle from Beer Gonzo, Webshop, Earlsdon, Coventry, shared with Baz and Dom at Baz and Judes flat, Chester Friday 17th March 2017 Pours black, jet black with a dark brown head. We all felt this had a rather unusual aroma, in fact we agreed it smelt a little like fuel so a bit oily. Taste wise it was very pleasant, the hazlenut combining with the chocolatey and vanilla flavours to give a taste of praline. Smooth and creamy but overall not as good as expected or hoped the Mikkeller Cocoa Shake we had afterwards was a much better beer as was the 5 yr old Mamouche beforehand. Good but not great. Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Kenny. Pours oily black-brown with a creamy, dense brown head. Torched wood in the nose, burnt marshmallows, cocoa. Medium sweet flavour with lots of ashy roast, bitter baking cocoa, scorched earth, dried berries, raisins. Medium to full bodied, chewy, with fine carbonation. Warming finish, dry and quite ashy, with more burnt wood, earth, dark chocolate. Not bad overall.

Bottle split at L42, big thanks to Kenwold, 14/03/17. Pitch black topped with a dirty tan head that soon dissipates to a swirl. Nose is charr, roast, dark chocolate, black pepper, spice, earthy, burnt toffee. Taste comprises charr, chocolate, vanilla, spice, toffee, fruit cake. Full bodied, fine carbonation, drying close with warming alcohol. Decent enough impy but no show stopper.
