A salt caramel popcorn imperial ale. Bourbon and rum barrel aged, this 12.8% ale has complex and twisting flavours. Bitter caramel, wood, smoke, spice, treacle and vanilla are all present and intertwine against a smooth and lightly chewy mouthfeel. The salt caramel popcorn lends subtle hints of a smoky brininess.

(Bottle) Dark brown colour, with hints of ruby. Brief bubbly head. Malty, roasted, vinous nose with notes of liquorice, soy sauce, salty caramel, wood, vanilla and bourbon. Malty, roasted, vinous taste with liquorice, soy sauce, salty caramel, espresso, wood, rum, bourbon, vanilla, dried fruit, treacle and a warming, vinous finish with a mild bitternes. Full body, slightly oily texture. Quite sweet. Quite unbalanced and all over the place, but rich, tasty and interesting. Nice one.

Bottle shared in BDSB - sources via the brewery. Pours red-black with a slim, tan foam head. Meaty dark malt aroma, lots of dark fruits. Medium to heavy sweet flavour, liquefied dark fruits, chocolate sauce, toffee, brown bread, fruitcake. Full bodied, oily and chewy, with fine carbonation. Warming finish, some sticky toasted sugars, brown sugar, more toffee, ripe fruits. Great fun. Sweet, but with nice depth. And certainly boosty.

Taste is moderately sweet, malty, notes of caramel, malt lozenge, vanilla, treacle, a nuttily and minimally salty touch; well hidden alcohol. Viscous, oily texture, soft and slightly sticky palate, flat carbonation.

Quick RB taste at CBC Clerkenwell. 375ml bottle pours an oily black with a ring of white head. Nose has motor oil, industrial notes, smoke, malt, licorice, dark bread. Flavor has cherry, heavy with port, a little tobacco. Flavor is a bit washed out though. Finishes oily.

Bottle at home, 28/07/16, bottle #2089/8250. Extremely dark mahogany brown with little in the way of a covering. Nose is dark fruit rinds, light spice, brown sugar, toffee, red berry fruits, light boost tuneage. Taste comprises sweet malts, spice, caramel, red berry esters, toasted brown sugar, light molasses, subtle barrel, light bourbon streak. Full body, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a sweet closure and rising alchol level. Ok ... a little boosty and perhaps past its best some 30 months post bottling. Had worse but would not rush back for this juan.
