(Cask at Craft Beer Clerkenwell, London, 8 Apr 2014) Black colour with hints of ruby when seen through light. Foamy off-white head. Malty, roasted nose with coffee, dark chocolate and roasty malt. Lots of coffee aromas. Malty, roasted taste with notes of black coffee, espresso, dark chocolate, cacao and a generous coffee bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with balanced sweetness. Solid stout with a generous coffee character. Very nice.

Craft Clerkenwell. Cask. Clear deep red - amber beer. Small pale tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry with mild fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts, slightly sweet, no roast or bitterness. Touch of powdery dark chocolate and subtle floral note. Light tangy coffee. Pinch of hop spice. Juicy dark fruits. Dry crisp finish. Not bad but it got oddly chewy quite quickly.

Cask at CASK. It pours near black with small beige. The nose is dark chocolate, coffee, treacle, toasty, dirt and roasted malt. The taste is roasted malt, coffee, toast, dark chocolate, charred wood and spice with a dry, earthy finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Pretty earthy stuff. Good depth, but not overly drinkable.

Cask @ CBC Brixton. Dark brown/black, hard to see in here! Fairly lively. Aroma of raw coffee and blackberries. The malt and burnt coffee character dominate the bitter taste. A good beer by most brewers’ standards. From Thornbridge, I expected more. Not very balanced or complex, but still pretty damn good.

Cask at Coach and Horses, Dronfield - Easy going stout, deep black body, lasting tan head. Nose is a soft malt, coffee and chocolate. Taste is more of the same, with a rich oily palate that makes the beer. Not too bad.
