Wooden cask at Pig’s Ear 2013. It pours clear amber with a small beige head. The nose is wood, varnish, spice, light sulphur and light berry notes. The taste is wood, earth, citrus, sherbet, more wood, burnt toffee and toast with a dry finish. Medium body, fine carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Not a whole lot going on. So-so.

Cask, handpump at The James Street Tavern, Cowley Rd, Oxford, Monday 11th November 2013. Pours reddy/amber, clear with a slim white head. Quite raspy bitterness but underpinned with a robust malt base and tempered sweetness. Full bodied, fruity but with a bit of caramel, roof of mouth getting a little grapefruity coating. I like this, plenty in here to like but with a good malty base and bitterness. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8

Cask at Land of Liberty Peace and Plenty, Chorleywood, Herts. An amber coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Fruity, malty aroma. Tastes fruity, malty, almost buttery, some caramel in there too.

Cask at the Henly Brew House, Henley. Reddish amber with a tight cream head; tropical fruit aroma, but papaya and kiwi rather than the usual mango; rich and buttery in the mouth with more tropical fruit, grapefruit and pineapple; followed quickly by a crisply bitter finish with citrus and pine cones. Very satisfying.

[Cask at the Bootlegger, High Wycombe] Amber red with a moderate white head. Pleasant soft fruity malt is balanced with orange, pine and tropical fruit. Maybe a little restrained, but very enjoyable and easy to drink in a mellow kind of way. In fact, I could and would like to drink a lot of this. Yet another great beer from this excellent young brewery, which is rapidly ovetaking Chiltern as my favourtie Bucks brewery.
