A traditional Farmhouse saison or ‘seasonal’ style beer brewed for it’s rich flavor and character. Four select yeast strains are used to brew this complex, fruity and aromatic beer. An abundance of whole cone Fuggle & Golding hops create a delicate balance with the malted barley, wheat & oats.

Bottle split at the Kernel, big thanks to Paul, 09/11/13. Hazy orange amber with a good sized off white head. Nose is spice, tangy fruits, straw, bitter orange, yeast, farmy, lemon rind. Taste comprises orange pith, straw, light spice, yeast esters, earthy farmness, light soap notes, tarte fruits. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry grassy finale. Solid saison.

Bottle thanks to Paul Unwin. Bit of a gusher! It pours hazy golden yellow with a thick white head. The nose is sweet tangerine, clementine, earthy, barnyard, spice, sherbet, candy, banana and parma violets. The taste is sherbet, orange, tangerine, spice, hay, barnyard, icing sugar, light bitterness, earth, funk, light banana, grapefruit rind and decent bitterness. Medium+ body and high carbonation. Smooth, funky, fruity and damn tasty. Nice complexity. Utterly drinkable.

Bottle. Pours hazy golden with a very large puffy off-white head that slowly dissipates leaving sticky lacing. Aroma is quite light, lemony, fruity, yeast. Flavor is about the same, a bit of peppery spice mixed in as well. Lightly sweet and really quite fruity. Some yeasty funk coming in late as the mouth starts to dry out to the finish. Medium body, heavy carbonation in the mouth. Nice effort.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, best before 12/2015. Pours lightly hazy bright golden amber color with a 3 finger dense and rocky white head with incredible retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big lemon, peach, pear, apple, pineapple, grape, pepper, clove, honey, bread, hay, grass, herbal, light funk, and yeast earthiness. Incredible aromas with great complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast notes with malt sweetness; and good strength. Taste of big lemon, pear, peach, pineapple, apple, grape, pepper, clove, honey, bread, hay, grass, herbal, light funk, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of citrus, peach, pineapple, light fruits, pepper, clove, honey, bread, hay, grass, herbal, light funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity of fruity/spicy yeast flavors with moderately balanced malt sweetness; with zero cloying flavors after the finish. High carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and prickly mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic saison style. All around awesome balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast and malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to sip on. A highly enjoyable offering.

Super hazy copper and orange coloured body with a ridiculously large and soapy, five centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of yeast, wheat, malt, bread, hay, grass, coriander seed, pepper, curacao - you name it, it’s in here, and it smells great! Medium-bodied; Assertive spicey yeast flavour with a lot of hay, grass, hops, funk, dough, herbs, sage and honey flavours throughout, all showing a strong complexity and a touch of sweetness at the end. Aftertaste shows a very well-rounded character with the spice and yeast especially making the strongest flavours, but all with a pleasant sweetness and an overt grassiness throguhout. Overall, a very nice beer for the style - nothing left to the imagination here - the yeast is complex, but the flavour profile is in your face from the first smell of the beer. Definitely worth sampling if you can find it, and easily worth the space and effort to bring home even the big bottle in your suitcase! I sampled this wax-topped 75 cL bottle purchased from Made in Oregon in Portland, Oregon (PDX Airport, Terminal D) for US$10.95 on 28-April-2013, sampled at home in Washington on the opposite end of the country on 22-September-2013.

Bottle: A tart, vinous aroma permeates the air upon popping the top. A slow gusher, but barely any escaped. The pour is a flat tangerine color with a big fizzy beige head. Good retention, patience is a virtue. The nose is still a little vinous, but the yeast and farmyard funk comes through now that it’s in my glass. The taste comes together in a prickly way; lots of carbonation with florals, yeast, spices, and fruit. A little wheat and wood, finished a bit heavy. Good farmhouse feel overall.

Bottle. Golden body with a pillowy, white head, mostly lasting. Aroma of mustiness, fruit, sweet plum, pepper, toasted grain, floral hops, barnyard. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet, moderately bitter and lightly to moderately acidic. Medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation. Dry finish. Slightly thin. But nice funkiness. Sweet beginning dry out in the finish. Taste of tropical fruit, mango, basement mustiness.

Bottle: Poured a hazy yellow/beige color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of rustic malt with nice floral undertones is very enticing. Taste is a nice mix between some quite dry rustic malt with nice floral malt notes and some light fruity ester also discernable. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. This beer was very well brewed and quite enjoyable but missed a little bit of character to make it into the major league of Saison.

750 ml bottle with wax top, purchased at Winooski Beverage Warehouse back in March. Cloudy gold with nice head retention. Nose of yeast, spice, fruit, melon, grain and wheat. Flavor is the same as the aroma’s. Everything is approximately how it should but the flavor just feels muted. Could use something to make this brew stand out. Hops? Different spice? Something…
