As the name suggests, we’ve used just one variety of hop in this pale golden ale. Brewed with just low colour Maris Otter malt and a little wheat for head retention, we’ve selected some of the more “interesting” hops and added several bucket loads to each brew. Currently we’re using one of our favourites, NZ Motueka. Expect a tropical citrus twist, with hints of lemon and lime.

Hand-pulled pint at the Pheasant Inn and Brewhouse on 11th November 2024. Golden body, dull gold actually, white affair on top. Citrussy but all a bit wishy-washy and subtle, not the most exciting Arbor out there.

Can. Appearance - murky orange with a foamy white head. Nose - tinned peach, canteloup melon and mango. Taste - orange, peach and melon. Palate - close to medium bodied, creamy texture, lightly zesty finish. Overall - good stuff.

On cask at the Stockbridge Tap. Appearance - golden with a decent head. Nose - a bit elusive but something orangey. Taste - orange and pale malt though all very gentle. Palate - light bodied with a creamy texture and a fairly good finish. Overall - I had this in the wrong order but even allowing for that it was a situation where the single hop varietal aspect is kinda irrelevant as it becomes a bit insipid in this golden ale.

Cask @ The Bell Inn, Oswestry. Pours gold, small white head. Gentle fruity aroma. Mild motueka notes coming through to taste, thin bodied, mild citrussy elements but overall quite lacking.. hmm

Big shagging can in the garden, 3rd April 2020. Pours a light straw colour. Aroma is lemon, citrus and aromatic. Taste is quite lemony, light grapefruit, peach, some bitterness. Great flavour for the extreme low ABV.

568ml can. 4%. Gluten Free. Hazy yellow gold colour, big foamy white head leaving lacing and aroma of citrus, fruity, some grain. Taste is sweetish malt & grain, with citrus notes, lemon & lime hints, pine and tangy bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry dusty bitter finish. Quite OK

Cask at the Holborn Whippet. Clear blond colour, white fluffy head. Aroma is floury, slight real ale stink, bit earthy and some subtle creamy fruitiness. Taste is nice enough, creamy and floury again. Not a massive taste but by no means unpleasant. Slight vegetable element with a little bit of fruit in the background. Maybe some minerals too. Soft in the mouth. --- Beer merged from original tick of Single Hop Motueka on 09 Sep 2019 at 16:06 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 7.
