Cask at Hamilton Hall, JDW, London. Pours clear, matte brown-gold with a light, white foam head. Dry brown bread nose, some toast, light leaves. Light to medium sweet flavor with toasty malts, toasty semi-dark sugars, light crunchy grains. Light in body with fine carbonation. Good condition. Toasted bread finish with light grapes, dry grains, mild leafy bitterness. Good balance. Very nice bitter overall.

Cask at the John Russell Fox (JDW), Andover. Golden amber with a tight cream head; somewhat fruity aroma; to start there are some slightly sour apples, then some caramel, giving a sort of tarte tatin combination; and the finish is dry and cidery. Not bad, but not special.

Pint: hand-pulled on 6th Oct 2012 in the Wolverhampton Wetherspoons. They must have spent hours at the brewery thinking up the name of this beer (because it isn’t special). Pours a deep amber/cooper colour, mine had a thin white head on top for a while. Malty nose and taste but bland from start to finish. If I’m being kind it did have some caramel and mild toffee notes in an otherwise boring reviewing/rating attempt. Lacked some of everything a ’Special’ beer should have (life, taste and umph).

Golden going on copper coloured, and fairly standard stuff. Has little nose and little flavour, although is crisp enough to palate.

Cask at the Moon in the Square, Bournemouth. Medium amber pour with a nice long lasting frothy head. Malty aroma and a smooth malty, slightly bitter taste with chocolate notes. A great ale for a session.
