Bold, resinous and bursting with bright grapefruit aroma, this IPA is a tribute to the decades of hard work by conservationists to restore the James River as a bounty of vibrant aquatic life, eco-friendly recreational activity, and in our case, fresh brewing water. These efforts have culminated recently with the symbolic return of the endangered Atlantic sturgeon, a prehistoric, yet majestic behemoth of a fish, spotted as far up the James River as the fall line in Richmond.

On tap at Tap East. Hazy amber colour lasting white head. Slightly toast hop. Slightly oxydised. It's a typical US old school ipa. Some bitterness. Some caramel. It's OK . Lasting finish. Nothing special.

Keg at MK VHX, 28/06/18. Golden orange with a decent off white cap. Nose is caramel, straw, pine needle, bitter orange, toasted malts. Taste comprises orange pith, grapefruit, bittersweet tropical fruit, grassy, pine needle, light breads. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close peppered with lightly aggressive hop bitterness. Decent enough IPA with an old skool lilt.

Tap. Head of Steam, Leeds. Hazed, pale copper colour. Thin and leggy, lasting, white head. Nose has spicy malts. Some sappy pine. Notes of cedar and fairly rich, oily herb. Taste is a little sweet to start, with a long, light, sappy bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. Sappy and spicy finish. Took some warming to, after a glut of East Coast stuff, lately, but I enjoyed this a lot.
