Draft - Mild citrus nose. Cloudy straw with thin lingering head. Very nondescript with some grain, hay and citrus. A very small bite of bitterness just to let you know it is there.

Bottle. Orange, wheat malt, and light clove aroma. Hazy gold with a small white head. Tart citrus and wheat flavor. Light, highly carbonated body. Flavor is light and little on the bland side, but it could be a lot worse. I’d take this over a macro any day.

Labeled as just Hefeweizen. Typical Bavarian style hefe, solid look of a wheat ale, banana and bubblegum aroma and flavor. Nice thirst quencher.

Bottle. Pours hazy yellow-orange with a medium head that stays around for a while and some lacing. Aroma of wheat with a hint of banana. Wheaty flavor with very faint banana and lemon notes. Crisp finish with little aftertaste. Medium to full bodied. Not a bad offering. My bottle was labeled Pyramid Hefeweizen; no mention of "Haywire."

Pours orange with a small foamy head. Aroma of fruits, orange and spices. Taste is quite a lot hoppier and maltier than in German hefeweizens. Hints of orange, spices and fruits. Slightly sticky and fruity finish.

Hazy yellow color, small white head, lace. Light banana aroma. Light to medium-bodied. Overriped banana, light citrus ... semi-sweet flavor. Quite classic style hefeweizen. Much better than top raters’ old ratings indicated.

Dull brew, kinda cheap looking, with a wheat-tinged but ultimately corny taste that doesn’t do too much justice to the style. The feel is smooth and rich, but the growing sweetness gets to be too much as the brew warms. Pass.

Draught as a 5 oz sampler at Pyramid in Sacramento, CA, on April 23, 2011Murky yellow pineapple color, white head. Served with a piece of lemon. Spicy, fruity, lemonish, farily mild sugary taste. Some sloe in the aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel to the moussy side. Medium low bitterness. Spicy and sweet scent.

Is this a bad beer?? no! Could Pyramid have done better?? YES! This seemed to lack the distinct sharpness of traditional German hefeweizen. Flavor is bland, and lacking. Aftertaste is malty, but sour. If there was such a thing as a light hefe, then this might be it. I squeezed a lemon in it and it improved but... you should have to do that with a Hefe. I’ll stick to Hacker-Pschorr or Franziskaner- how a true hefeweizen should taste.
