A balance of speciality malts, including roasted chocolate barley malt, produces the rich malt flavours which are smoothed further with the traditional addition of lactose (milk sugar).

Served on cask at the Sussex Arms, Twickenham Green into an English Half pint jug (Jan ’12). Pours dark chestnut brown verging on off-black with a small white head that held up for 4 or 5 minutes then thinned to line the edges. Roasted malts on the nose and a bitter chocolate aroma dominating Plenty of this roasted malt flavour in the taste along with chocolate (again more bitter than sweet) a little caramel and a burnt sugar taste in the background. Maybe a hint of roasted coffee in the flavour as well? Quite full bodied for 4.5% but nowhere near the ’chewy’ category Plenty of lacing on the glass throughout drinking In the aftertaste I got the ’creamy’ aspect of this beer ! Remember - MILK chocolate stout! A creamy bittersweet roasted finish - most pleasant!

Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm. Transparently black. Rich roasty coffee aroma. Mid sweet with soft mouthfeel and fairly light body. Coffee with cream with spicy hops atop. Flavourful, soothing and beautifully drinkable. Long bitter finish. A winner!

(Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm) Dark brown colour, almost black, with foamy beige head. Malty, roasted nose with chocolate, dried fruit and sweet coffee. Malty, roasted taste with notes of chocolate, coffee, sweet liquorice, dried fruit and a gentle coffee bitterness in the finish. Medium body, fairly sweet. Well balanced, nice and tasty.

Cask at CBC. It pours very dark ruby, with a decent foamy off-white head. The nose is roasted malt, charcoal, smoke and milk chocolate (but not overpowering). The taste is roasted malt, milk chocolate, chocolate milkshake, tar, tangy fruit, smoke and resin, with a dry-roasted finish. Medium body, soft carbonation and good balance. Thankfully not too sweet. Surprisingly enjoyable.

Cask at Craft Beer Co on 6th January 2012. Deep ruby with greyish-beige foam and clinging patchy lace. Chocolate and Christmas berries in aroma. Liquid is rich and intensely fruity yet strong chocolate develops which turns milky in the aftertaste. Yorkie(TM) finish! Quite zingy but feel on lips a little oily. Very interesting and enjoyable stout. Rated as a novelty beer.

A few pints on tap at CBC, London. Pours dark brown with a fine, off-white head. Chalky, roasted malt nose, some cocoa. Light to medium sweet flavor, dry with chalky baking cocoa, some dark sugar, and moderate roast. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Superbly balanced and in great condition. Lightly dry finish, more cocoa, decent roast, light earth, dark sugar. Very solid beer overall. Highly drinkable.

Cask in the craft. Deep red brown clear beer, small pale tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry. Sweet chocolate tones with a little tang. Underneath is pleasing red fruits that really round off the beer. Mild minerals. Finishes smooth and semi dry. Really nicely joined up and a pleasant surprise.

Cask, handpump at Craft Beer Co, Clerkenwell, London 6th Jan 2012 Black in colour with a slim head. Whilst this has a pleasant roastiness it is more than balanced out by a soft indulgent creaminess, strong maltiness throughout and yet there is a lingering bitterness, the finish is erring towards the dry. Decent chocolate stout, quite rich, creamy and enjoyable and not too sweet. [b> A6 A4 T8 P4 Ov13 3.5
