Cask at White Lady JDW. Not recently, but came across this beer whilst looking for the ’imperial’ pale ale, and remember it well. Pours clear brown for one thing. thin tan head. Light aromas of chocolate and roasted malt. Taste was sweet, with a light roast bitterness and a very thin finish. NOt very good.

Almost a completely nutty complexion, and a stout which is full of flavour.

Crosse Keys Spoons. Clear brown beer. Residual tan head. Light dry palate. Okay semi dark malts. Dark toffee. Very mild roast. Plummy fruits underneath. Whisper of sulphur. Dry finish. Not bad, has some flavour.

Cask-conditioned at the Willow Walk (JDW) 14 October 2011. Dark brown with a tight tan head. Sweet, caramel, milk chocolate and berry fruit aroma. Flavour was also sweet with more chocolate, fruit and camp coffee with a gently bitter finish. Enjoyable.

[Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading] Strong milk chocolate clavour, but good quality milk chocolate. Greeen leafy hops show through. Very smooth and creamy. This grew on me, it’s definitely one of the better ones at the fest.

Cask handpull at Penderels Oak Spoons. Black beer with thick beige head. Its a strong fruity dark ale. Is it an impy stout? Not sure. Like maeib I would go for an imperial porter. Fruity damson and plum is attractive. Smooth beer. Alcohol is fairly present. Some heat. Just the right side of boozy. Not overly roasty. No osy sauce. Quite hoppy on finish. Aroma has some ashtray. Plum ir damson liquer though is my dominant impression. And a velfety smoothness. Just wondering if a whisky or bourbon would work with this. Maybe something soft like a glenmorangie. Best Caley beer I have had in years. Bit of milk choc

Cask @ The King’s Highway JDW, Inverness.
Very dark ruby brown, thin tan head.
Aroma of chocolate and sweet dark malts - not much roasted malt.
Taste - dark fruity malts, bit of roasted malt, bit of coffee, woody, chocolate, alcohol is noticeable. Not much complexity here.
Palate - rather dry finish...thin....soft carb...dull finish for a stout.
Overall - Not an imperial stout and rather thin for an normal stout., roasted malts are somewhat lacking. With all its faults it actually tastes quite nice and is fairly quaffable.

Cask at Willow Walk, Victoria. It pours darkest brown, with an off-white film. The nose is caramel, toffee, cocoa and roasted malt. The taste is salted caramel, liquorice, treacle, roasted malt, burnt malt, bitter chocolate and light sour tang, with lingering alcohol warmth. Medium body and soft carbonation. Not bad, but I would have preferred it to be fuller bodied.

Cask @ Camperdown Place, JDW. Spoons Real Ale Festival autumn 2011. Had high hopes for this one. Alas, it turned to be a decent enough beer. Very dark brown colour, dense beige head. Nose is roasted malts, lots of coffee and coffee cream. Flavour is deep roasted malts, coffee, bit of caramel, coffee cream. Roasty finish. Good drinkable.
