German-style black lager with a ludicrously smooth roastiness.

Tasty schwarzbier, heavy notes of roasted malt underlined by traces of chocolate, caramel, and smoke, with a mild sweetness complemented by slight fruit esters. Finishes clean (almost too much so), rye spiciness, minerals and a teeny tiny floral hop flourishes closing out the fade. Pours a deep dark black with a moderate cream-colored head and decent lacing. Nose gives up rye, dark roasted malt, and a little yeast. Perfect slick, easy-quaffing texture. Keep firing, assholes.

4 oz taster draft as part of a 4 beer flight at the Westbrook Brewing Company in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. The pour is darker brown with a small light tan head. The aroma is soft roast malt and some sweet light toffee. The taste is the roast malt and toffee caramel sweetness, clean and nicely balanced. The palate is medium to light bodied with active carbonation and dry mineral roast finish. Nice Schwarz.

Dark brown coloured body with a two centimetre tall tan head, with the body showing about 60% opacity - not incredibly dark. Aroma of roasted malt, prunes, earth, cream and a touch of burnt metal. Medium-bodied; Thinnish feeling of roasted malt up front with some oatmeal and specialty grains noticeable, but the burnt flavours persist and ends with a hint of caramel sweetness. Aftertaste shows a bit of prunes alongside the earthy malt notes and ends with grain, oatmeal and some bitter fruit flavours. Overall, a decent beer, if that - much too thin and not enough complexity at all; Definitely below expectations, whatever they happened to be. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Murray’s Cheese in New York (Greenwich Village), New York on 06-December-2015 for US$8,99 sampled at home in Washington on 29-March-2016. Bottled On Date of 09-October-2015.

Dark black, almost pitch, strong creamy tan head with very nice lacing. Aroma of malts, chocolate and roasted mostly with some rye. Taste low sweet caramel, bitter chocolate, roasted malt, some toasted nuttiness and bread, burnt bitterness in the finish. Dry roasted aftertaste. Medium to full bodied and creamy. More bitter and burnt than most Schwarzs, maybe a bit too much for the style.

22oz bottle pours a murky, deep brown with some cloudy, off white head. Nose is mild but has some malt, some mild brown sugar, a little dark bread, pumpernickel, some mild yeast. Flavor has much more brown sugar, some turbinado sugar too, malty, bread, some mild chocolate, quite yeasty, some dark grains. Clean finish. Solid.
