500ml bottle @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, Nov 23. Thanks Jeremy for our allotted twig bottle. Pours dark, good beige head. Aroma of chocolate, dark malt, gentle roast. Flavour profile continues along these lines, medium bodied with pleasant chocolatey elements.. bit of a burnt finish. Decent overall.

Monday 27th November 2023, Monthly gathering in Chez Sophie. 500ml bottle from me: BBE February 2025. Slight red hue to the dark body, off-white crown. Malty with a chocolate front with hints of dark berries and vanilla sweetness. One of the better Christmassy beers from the UK.

Many thanks to Simon T. for this bottle. Great dense chocolate beginning. Deep caramel with a deep malty bitterness. Round and easy to drink, grainy, bitter, dry caramel. Cask @ Gallows Bird, Espoo. Aroma has licorice and toffee typical to English ales. Also some herbs. Flavour has strong English hops with grapefruit & herbs and toffee notes. Also licorice. Aftertaste has ash and mellow tobacco notes with some hay. These English hops are still not my thing.

Pigs Ear. Opaque black beer. Light brown suddy head. Dry semi crisp palate. Sourish tang to this like a good porter but not as heavy. Light sweet fruit and bubblegum sweetness. Light minerally finish. All right.

Bottle at home in London with Lyoli. Pours clear, rich brown with a strong, beige foam head. Some nice chocolate notes in the aroma, a bit of roast and light earth. Light to medium sweet with a very natural chocolate character and very mild bitterness. Light bodied with fine, smooth carbonation. Mild sweet finish, modestly roasty, some cocoa, light wood and minerals. Very nicely balanced porter.

500ml Bottle (4.7% on the label) - Very dark brown with red tinges and a tan head. Rich and fruity aroma with notes of Christmas cake, plum and plain chocolate. Sweet, fruity and roasted taste with notes of spice, dried fruit, caramel and plain chocolate. The port is noticeable, but it doesn’t taste boozy and is nicely balanced.
