Victor Ale lets us blur the lines between brewer and vintner. The brew begins by mashing Pilsner malt with locally grown red grapes. It’s then hopped with Hallertau. The beer is fermented first with a strain of wine yeast, then finished with Belgian abbey-style yeast. Victor Ale presents a pale copper hue, medium body, a pronounced vinous character, and a spicy, tart finish. Its beer sibling is Victoria, which uses chardonnay grapes, but is otherwise identical.

2009 750 ml bottle from Imbibe Wine says 9.0%ABV. Nose of yeast, a winey tartness, and light spiciness. Hazy copper with a medium light beige head. Flavor is a hint of tart, slightly sweet grapes, and caramel malt.

On tap at Allagash tasting at Stags head. Pours a golden orange. Nice fruity aroma and is tastes of bubble gum, yeast and you can get some of the red grapes, which I prefer to the white grapes used inthe Victoria. Its slighty tart and the carbonation provides nice fizzle. Fun beer.

Draft. Awesome beer. Pours a light gold with a strong, all-white head. Aroma holds fruity notes, bubble gum, phenols and a strong Belgian character. Flavor is quite sweet and bready, some yeast, with hints of grape and citrus. Mild bitterness and dryness on the finish. Medium in body and well carbonated. I loved it.

Location: On tap at the Belgian Room, 5/14/10
Aroma: Aroma of fruit, spice, and yeast
Appearance: Hazy yellow-gold color with some lace
Flavor: Flavor has some maltiness, medium (+) sweet
Palate: Light-medium body, decent/dullish mouthfeel
Overall Impression: This stuff is somewhat boring, I wasn't particularly impressed. Nothing too special. I wouldn't rush out for it again, but I'd drink it.

On tap at flying saucer. Pours a clear copper golden with a small white head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is a fruity floral hop. Thib mouthfeel with a fruity hop flavor that hides the alcohol well making it easy to drink. A very good belgian strong ale from allagash.

750ml bottle. Glowing cloudy orange color. Mild and subdued dry, sweet aroma. Sweet yeasty mouthfeel, not unlike a top-notch Belgian Ale. The alcohol and sweetness are very well balanced with the mild tartness of the grapes. The end of the bottle really displays the most red-grape notes, with a real depth of character. An excellent World Class beer, albeit a tad pricey.

Hazy golden-amber. The aroma is woody, footy, slighlty fecal, with light fruity and vinous accents. Spritzy body shows grape, rich pale malts, woody/peppery hop/alcohol balance and light pediococcus. OK, but nothing jumps out as being special.

Bottle courtesy of Jay23: Poured a deep hazy copper/orangey color ale with a big foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of sweet malt with light grape taste. Taste is a quite complex mix between some light grapes, sweet Belgian malt with some yeasts attenuation and a light funky finish. Very light notes of oak and tart notes are also noticeable. I find this beer to be quite good but not sure I would purchase very often considering the price tag.
