[Gravity cask at Chippenham Beer Festival] I enjoyed this in the bottle and was very much looking forward to the cask version. It’s dark brown, rich and fruity, with maybe a bit of Christmas cake and some port. This results in a smooth, rich mouthfeel, which is well balanced against deep roasted malt flavours and a kick of spice in the finish. I was a little tipsy (maybe verging on inebriated) when I wrote this, but it still stood out over the other beers at the festival. A top notch porter.

Cask at The Long Room. Pours black-brown, with a big, bubbly beige head. Dark chocolate syrup on the nose. Flavor is quite roasty, with light chocolate and coffee, as well as some piney spice. Tingling roastiness on the palate, light to medium in body, with soft, flat carbonation. Very smooth. Some lingering burnt malts in the finish. Overall, I found it a good beer.

Appearance was one shade shy of midnight black, giant bubbles that settle quickly. Smell had caramel and milk chocolate. Taste was smooth cocoa but sort of unbalanced; slight smoke finish. Interesting; memorable; unique.

Cask gravity at 1st K&ES Railway BF 2009. Black, opaque. Very thin biege head. Smells of choc ginger nut biscuits. Fullish mouth. Yes definitely choc covered ginger biscuits, but not bad.
