Handpull cask from the Salmon, Leicester. Gingerbread brown and clear with a decent off-white head. Spice dominates the aroma: cinnamon, ginger nuts, mace, clove, brown sugar. Taste is spicy sweet as well although there's a touch of fruity hop in the finish. Long lingering finish with clove and plum aftertaste. Won't be to everyone's liking but I quite enjoyed it.

Cask @ Britons Protection, Manchester. Golden with a thin bubbly head. Has plenty of sticky, sugary winter fruits and very mild sweet spices in its aroma and taste, and is a good Christmas winter warmer for it. There’s a fair bit of bubble gum in its aroma.

Clear brown colour. Sweet fruity aroma with some glace cherry. Body is a bit weak and watery. Flavour is of a floral and fruity pot pourri.

Hand-pulled half-pint on 11th Jan 2014 in The Fox, Chetwyn Aston, Shropshire. Amber body with a smooth white foam on top. The beer had a malty start with a hop dry finish, the nose and initial taste was of semi-sweet molasses, they in turn gave way to the hops asserting themselves towards the end of each sip. There were hints of spice and wintery notes from something, nothing over the top, but this was tasty and Christmassy without it being in your face.

Cask. Hazy orangey brown with a creamy beige head. Sweet and spicy nose - almost candy-like. Medium body, flat, dominated by odd cake spices overpowering most other flavours. No bitterness. Odd. 200110

Bottle that dad picked up from Congleton brewpub (cheers dad), consumed Dinmore, Herefordshire 27-12-09 Pours reddy brown in fact on second glance maybe its a little darker than that actually. Taste is fruity and tangy with a little Christmas spice its not bad but I’m getting a bit tired of these bottles of run of the mill stuff and need something with a bit more oomphh. Cask gravity at Pig’s Ear. Dark mahogany colour, no head. Toffee aroma. Bit dull in mouth. More toffee on end. It’s got some toffee throughout. Fine.
