A pale golden ale with a thin white head. In aroma, a herbal malt with smooth floral hops, resinous, not bad. In mouth, a grainy biscuitty malt with floral hops, oily mouthfeel, very nice. Bottle from Potsdam IGA, 2.22$

Friend’s fridge: Pours a nice copperish color with a white head. Cascade hop is all up in that aroma jawn; hence, there be flowers, citrus, and crystal-like malts. Taste is nicely bitter at the front. Hop flacvor profile is really right on the money for an APA. Body is also pretty perfect for the style; nothing too intense or not intense enough. Sessionable like all hell. J’aime.

12 oz bottle from Table and Vine. West Springfield, MA. Used a lager glass, pored a transparent gold with amber like hue. Small white head, next to no lace. Aroma is bread dough, fresh wet hops and some floral notes. This taste is lightly sweet malt with a mild bitterness that is crisp and clean. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Very tasty, clearly I had a fresh bottle. Slightly above average. Nice.

Stoudts American Pale has some great packaging, I’ll give it that. But, as pales go, it comes off on the lighter side, sacrificing deep flavor for a bubbly body. The hops are assertive at first, yet grow complacent, and lead to a mild finish that doesn’t fully offset the malt sweetness. Despite all of this complaining, though, Stoudts American Pale Ale remains incredibly easy to drink, which might be more important than any of the other bullshit. (2008)

Hay aroma, a little shitty, weak pine notes. Clear golden thin head. Very soapy flavor that fades to a maltier finish. Has potential, but seems poorly made, I hate to say. Weak and kind of watery. I really want to like Stoudts, but it strikes me as a gateway beer. It fits with Sierra Nevada, Samuel Adams, and Saranac and is probably the best among them, but has yet to get to the next level. This beer wasn’t a step toward that end but hopefully satisfies a niche.

12 oz bottle at the Urban Brew Cafe in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Pour is a hazed golden copper with a nice one inch white head. Aroma is caramel malt up front, with a grassy floral hop behind that. Taste is the caramel malt more the hops, a bit of honey sweet, finishing with some flatness. Palate is medium bodied, low carbonation and as mentioned, flattens out to the finish. I have had better Stoudt beers, assuming this had some age on it (bottle not dated).

On tap. Pours a gold amber with a white head. Citrusy pine aroma. Flavor has pine, spicy, and citrus hops backed by biscuit malts. Nicely bitter. Pretty good APA.

Tap at Pizzeria Paradiso. Bright yellow with a small white head that disappears quickly to leave a massive amount of delicate lacing. Aroma of flowery fresh hops and black pepper. Flavor starts with malt but has a steady bitter hoppiness throughout without being too aggressive. Nice.
