Bottle at THE sours & saisons tasting (part 1). It pours cloud deep red, with a small white head. The nose is jammy, strawberry, tangy cherry, wood, earth, touch of spice, cherry pip and sour vinous notes. The taste is cherry, sour raspberry yoghurt, wood, jam, tanginess, vinous, vinegar, tannins and red grape, with a tangy finish. Medium body, fine carbonation and moderate acidity. Great tartness and jammy fruits. Tasty stuff.

Bottle @ ratman’s, courtesy of ratman. Huge thanks! Cloudy, reddish orange appearance with an off white head and some sediment. Tangy, tart, red vinous, dark berry, acetic aroma. Vinous, tart berry, cherry, acetic, funky flavor. Moderate warmth. Fun sour. Thanks Ratman!

Rating # 800. 750 ml bottle. 4 years old. "Blended in October 2007." Series of Sours beer #3. I’ve been eyeing this beer on the shelf at Enoteca for a couple years now. I’ve always been discouraged by the price, but now is the time, dammit. Pours a muddy orange-brown with a medium beige head that collapses into a skiff and resilient ring of foam after a couple minutes. Aroma is a bit funky with the wood showing itself along with dark fruits and a nutty character. Taste is tart and dries the mouth. I taste tart fall apples, alcohol. Has an awesome mouth-filling aftertaste that I can’t really describe. Full bodied and average carbonation. A lot of flavor here.

Acetic upfront, balsamic, wood, a note of oxidation that adds some complexity, notes of leather, the residual sweetness is very appreciated.

Dark amber color; minimal carbonation, therefore just a thin head, reducing to a thin collar. The first aroma is acetone, but also wood cask, Balsamic vinegar, fruits (cherries), malt (which conveys some sweetness in this wild sour aroma). The body is correctly structured; it has some malt and caramel flavor, with a strong presence of dark berries fruitiness and dark berries wine, also cherries; there is some residual sweetness and a vein of Sherry; it's very sour, but the acidity is not very well blended with the rest, and there is an evident trace of acetone; the alcohol as well is quite evident; in the final there is some woody astringency too, and it's drier.
Interesting, as usual, but a bit too aggressive.

Saurer, deutlich holzig-fruchtiger Antrunk. /12/11/12/12/12

750mL bottle. I have held onto this for a while before sharing it in a 3 year vertical. In hindsight, I wish I drank this earlier. Aroma is musky, dirty pond water, and musky rotten cherry. Flavor is slightly sour with faint coffee grinds (really just an earthiness). Good stuff but probably not aging well.

2007 Bottle, at Jimmy’s No 43 during a Lovullo Tasting Session. Poured a cloudy, ruby-red with a white, fizzy head. Tart aroma, with pungent cherry notes, some light alcohol, plenty of lactic acids and funk. Heavily reminiscent of the Cherry Warhead. Medium bodied with soft, fizzy carbonation and acidic bite. A rather dry finish. This was really nice beer.

Bottle: Poured a deep reddish color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of sour notes with some oak and light tart cherries is very sublime and very pleasant. Taste is also a nice mix between some tart notes with very subtle cherry notes from the oak and a vinous finish which is very pleasant. Body is about average with good carbonation and alcohol is really not apparent. Very well done overall and a bit more tartness would have made this an incredible beer.
