Brewed with Chocolate and Crystal malts to produce this deep bronze coloured beer with a hint of malty flavour, bittered by the traditional Golding hop varieties, this is a classic strong bitter complimented by the aromatic warmth of Chinese stem ginger.

Thames Tipple Leg 8, Staines, Shepperton, Walton on Thames etc 29-11-09 Had this on the way home at The Royal Standard, Wooburn Common, Bucks. Pours chestnut in colour with a thin off-white head. Bit fruity in mouth and with a dab of nuttiness, I guessed that I was getting some warmth from the alcohol but I wonder if it was the Ginger which I must say I totally failed to recognise. Nice beer. On gravity at the Hillgrove Porter Stores, Bristol 2/11/07. Tried as part of the HPS’s beer festival, this was amber with a slight head. The aroma had some sweet malt and ginger. The flavour was well-balanced between malt and earthy ginger with a decent hoppy finish. Good.

Cask at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Dark ruby. Aroma of cinnamon and ginger. Sweet and medium bodied rounded mouthfeel with evident ginger flavour. Initially the flavour is nicely balanced between malt and ginger, but eventually the ginger starts to stick to my tongue and throat, and creates an unpleasant burning sensation. Served in a nip glass it might work, but with this much burning ginger that’s about what I can take.

Casked (4.8%). Dark brown colour with some slight red hints, almost no head. Fruity hops in aroma along with spices. Flavour is fruits, berries and a bit wood. Also spices and some grassyness. Atleast a casked beer that is different, but not so sure if it’s in a good or bad way. More bad I would say...
