Cask at Euston Tap. Dark red brown colour with small beige head. Aroma is dark fruit, plums, bit roasty. Taste is fruity, malty and nice and hoppy finish. Maybe a touch of spice. Pretty nice. --- Beer merged from original tick of Over the Moon on 09 Sep 2019 at 16:06 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 8 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 7. On cask at the Speaker, Westminster dispensed into a pint glass (Dec ’11). A mid brown colour with a small head that had vanished after 4 or 5 sips. Smelt very hoppy, citrus nose, light malts and nuts, maybe another fruit (of the dried variety) or perhaps mild spices. Smelt a lot like the Hophead! Tastes akin to Hophead but earthier and more emphasis on malt and nut, maybe a smidge of toffee/caramel, but similar hoppy pleasanteries! Mouthfeel was fine. Hophead in a brown winters jacket !

My first ever visit to ‘The Southampton Arms’ (London) and one of the many cask offerings was this beer: my third beer of a slow Saturday afternoon session was a hand-pulled pint of this, poured into an old ‘dimpled pint mug’, like all the cask ales are in this pub. I like a good Dark Mild now and again, this fitted the bill nicely. Dark brown with an off-white wisp of bubbles on top it looked your typical beer of that style. Roast/toasted malts in the nose, coffee and toffee like with some slightly burnt bits in the smells too. The taste is also malts all the way, again roasted/toasted with some dried fruit and malt loaf flavours coming through as well. The finish is fairly dry and the beer is far from sweet, the hops coming into their own towards the end of each gulp (you don’t sip Mild). Not the richest or thickest Dark Mild body wise, but very enjoyable non-the-less.

Cask at the White Rock Hotel, Hastings. Pitch black with a ring of tan head leaving light lacing on the glass; rich toffee aroma; rather thin and milky in the mouth with bitter chocolate malts and some purple fruit; then a dry finish. A very pleasant, easy drinking, mild.

Cask at CP&K. It pours dark brown, with a ruby tinge and beige head. The nose is floral, perfumed, sweet caramel, green hop and wood. The taste is dry roasted malt, green oily hop, floral, wood, leather, earth and chocolate, with a bitter-dry finish. Thin body and soft carbonation. Decent flavour, but it’s just too watery.

Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW. Pours a clear, ruby-brown with a creamy, tan head. Aroma holds some floral, piney hops. Lightly roasted malt flavor, lightly sweet, some toasty bread, floral bitterness, a little soap, plenty of earth. Light in body with soft carbonation. Finishes a little dry, some stickiness, mild wood, grass and floral hops some more. Pretty nice beer.

(Cask at The Harp, London) For a Mild this beer had quite strong hoppiness. The hops did fit in and made drinking this beer quite a pleasant experience. During the aftertaste the hops faded out and gave room to bit roasty maltiness and medium bitterness. Another nice brew from Dark Star.

@ Harp, Covent Garden. Dark brown. Nice head. Fresh leafy hops, touch of chocolate malt. Complex, appetizing aroma. Very leafy character with fresh American hop bitterness. Resiny, with tasty chocolate malts - the English make black IPA now? And it
