Our flagship beer - Hole Hearted is the bricks and mortar of our entire business, with a history going right back to the start. Fruity, floral, and delicately bitter, Hole Hearted was one of the first beers in the UK to use Cascade hops - now a ‘household name’ in brewing. It’s a pint you will return to pint after pint, all year round. This is our tribute to all things traditional in ale - crafted over 20 years and still going strong, flying the flag for Golden Ale proudly.

En ljus pale ale drucken på Hawkley Inn. Ovaligt mycket blommig, frisk citrushumle. Lätt frisk kropp. Uppfriskande.

02//09/2011 Brasserie 4:20 (cask).

RBESG 2010, cask at Brasserie 4:20
Hazy golden color. Nice hop aroma, with caramel and light yeast. Toffee flavor, I have to say a bit too much sweet and candy-like. Strong bitterness. Good Golden Ale, but not refreshing as it should be.

Cloudy gold beer. Low carbonation. Light grapefruit and marmalade hops. A little smooth malt. Not bad.

Cask @ 11th Ayrshire Real Ale Festival. Pale golden colour, white head. Aroma is light fruity, vegetables, plastic. Flavour is slightly fruity, bit of biscuit, vegetables. Slightly bitter finish. Not good at all.
Rerate: cask @ Haymarket Bar. This time a lot better. Well hopped, fairly bitter. +.9

Bottle. What an ugly label. Slightly hazy. Light amber colour, thin bubbly head. Fruity with apple skin, phenols. Light berry esters as well. Gentle bitterness, nice balance and fruitiness (apple, berry).

Cask at Wetherspoons, Victoria station, London last month. Copper coloured pour with a smallish head. Floral, fruity aroma. Tastes fruity, hoppy, floral, malty, bitter. Very moreish ale which I have had many times on cask.

Cask at the Hole In The Wall, Southsea, UK on 16th October 2009. Gold with offwhite head of foam giving some lacing. Stongly pungent aromatic and bitter. Pleasant hop touch with some citric notes (lemon mainly) and hoppy grassiness. Malt more evident in the finish. A very well-balanced, well-crafted ale. RE-RATING 13th January 2013: Bottle at home, Christmas gift. Pours almost clear amber with thin white non-lacing head. Hoppy, grassy aroma. Rich grassy hop in-mouth with delicate citrus. Tangy finish of citrus fruit and late maltiness. Zingy, bodiful texture. Excellent bottle.

[500ml bottle from Tesco’s, Portsmouth] Pours amber-gold with a half-hearted white head and a fizzy appearance (fortunately the fizz was far milder in the mouth). Beautiful fresh aroma of lemon and sweet malts (reminded me of a more intense Adnams brew). Taste is a letdown in comparison - a touch of minerals at first, then bready, biscuity malts that sit uneasily beside the mild grapefruit in the finish. Quite bitter, but not overly so. Yet another APA that’s a bit of a let-down - I’m starting to think that perhaps I’m not overly fond of the style... c5
