A well balanced dark mild ale with some bitterness, full bodied, but not overly sweet. An award winning mild that delivers a light fresh taste to one of the more traditional of beer styles.

Ruby shades to a pitch black body. Tiny, lacing head. Aroma of dark malts. Blended flavour of grainy malts and blood oranges added by a touch of spices. Malt bitterness to the ending. Watching Spain against Netherlands at Mr Foleys Cask Ale House in Leeds, 11.07.2010.

Cask at In de Wildeman. Clear reddish black colour, soapy head. Aroma of light roasted malts, caramel, light laurel. Flavour is sweet, some laurel, light roasted malts, ending in a bit skunky grainy bitter finish. Oily mouthfeel, light bodied. Onset is good, finish is bad.

Cask-conditioned at the Hillgrove Porter Stores, Bristol 18/12/09. Near black with a thin, off-white head. Aroma of dark fruit, a touch of caramel and some roastiness in the background. Flavour had chocolate, more fruit and a new world citrus hop kick, leading to a dry finish. Very enjoyable.

Cask at the GBBF 2008. Black colour, reddish brown in the highlights. Lovely complex aroma, roasted malts, oak, dark fruits, chocolate and liquorice. Nicely balanced flavour between the malts and hops, there is an assertive bitterness but it is not overdone.

[cask at North Wiltshire Beer Festival] Caramel dominates but rather bitter for a mild. Not great.
