Brought to MrFacto’s ’Tosa tasting by CaptainCougar; this beer was labeled "Best by 10/05/2002," so it was probably from 1999 or 2000. Hazy orange body with nary a head. Very appealing sour cherry aroma with notes of cinnamon, caramel, and toast as well as alcohol. Cherry pie flavor with tart cherries, toast, alcohol, and a peculiar woodiness, finishing with a lingering bitterness. Soft carbonation. Wow...besides New Glarus Belgian Red this is the best cherry beer I’ve tried.

Bottle. 2002 vintage. Tried at room temperature. Reddish color with no head. Aroma of cherries, tea, cloves, and christmas spices. Flavor of mulling spices and cheries. Easy drinking, lingering spiciness. I don’t think I could drink a lot of this, but it’s good for somethign different. Would think it’s best heated up.

Pours a ruby red with no head. Aroma is exactally like cherry pie. Flavor is sweet tart cherry but not overpowering. More like a sweet wine than a beer but still very tasty on a winter night. I had mine at room temp but i think this would be even better mulled.

Bottle – Served fresh: Poured a red colored beer with no carbonation or head. Aroma is mostly cherries with some spices. Taste is cherries with strong mix of clove and nutmeg. Maybe a bit too spicy for my liking. Very different beer thought. Served hot: No surprise here with no carbonation or head. Taste of spice seems to make more sense here since they are subtler. Overall, this is a very different beer probably not for everyone taste and I wouldn’t drink more then one. Re-rate 2016 - Superbly complex with notes of oak, spices and cherry with just the right amount of residuals sugar. This one has aged incredibly well.

I really wish I could track this beer down more often that I can as I have only had it a couple of times and rather liked it. I have noticed though that it does not age well. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz bottle this beer pours a dark reddish brown with no head to speak of. The scent of cherries and spice are strong and pleasant. There is a strong flavor of cherries and spice. It tastes like a cross between an unsweetened lambic and mulled wine. A bit of dryness on the palate. A very unusual brew, but I certainly enjoyed it.

2002 500mL bottle. Sampled at about 90-95 degrees. Magnificent appearance, lightly hazy red with some cinnamon browns and some lighter bright reds as well. Small to no head, but slightly off-white when present. Smells of cherries, cinnamon, allspice, faint clove. Yum. Flavor begins with a lightly sour/bitter cherry flavor, add in some lightly malted barley flavor and a big punch of mulled cider spices on the finish. Cherry flavor is not overly sweet, overpowering or anything. The warm beer flavor is new, but I like it. Couldnt really pick out much in the way of hops, but it had a warm bready flavor as well. Very intersting and I will certainly try it at cellar temp soon. Rerate. 02 bottle slightly chilled. Wow, this is much fuller and sweeter, but the spices remain deliciously rolled in to the overall picture. Sweet but not quite syrupy. I can't decide which I prefer.

Outstand cherry aroma. Light red color. Surprisingly complex. Flavors of cherry pie, apple, cinnamon, nutmeg, and yeast. Definitely has a lambic-like quality. Some sour flavor. This is a great treat. Thanks ztrvz. Best at room temp.

[2002 Bottle - expired 1½ years ago] I'm going to do all three recommendations since I have a whole bottle to share with me, myself, and I. It only said a slight fiz when I opened it - is it the ago? It poures red like a kriek should do and with no head at all - doesn't look much like beer. [On the rocks] The aroma is quite faint of cherries - but still rather sweet. The flavor is sweet with rather strong notes of cherries, cinnamon, and cloves. Sweet at first, cherries in the middle and cloves and cinnamon lingering in the end. A bit thin for the alcohol content or is it the meltet ice? and a little cloying in the end. [6/3/6/3/13] [Room temperature] The aroma is of mature cherries rather warm than sweet. The flavor is sweet with a nice cherry note, this time not too sweet, and it is rather a cherry end only with hints of cloves and cinnamon. The body is also better. I think all this one misses is some carbonation. [6/3/7/3/14] [Hot] At long last it has a little head but it soon disappears. The color is a clearer red than at lower temperature. The aroma is of cherries and very sweet almost a little cloying. The flavor starts out sticky sweet with strong notes of over-ripe cherries giving way to primarily cinnamon. I think the end is good - yet still a bit sweet, but the over-ripe cherries in the beginning is a little too much for me. [6/4/6/4/14] I must admit than I don't like this as much as the rest of You - but don't misunderstand me - it's still a good beer. I'll recommend it at room temperature, but I'm looking forward to comparing it to Liefmans Glühkriek. And at last I owe Alex (fiulijn) a huge thank You for trading me this one, which is not available in Denmark. Thanks, Alex.

Aroma of cherries, marzipan, light spices. Lean body, possibly thinner than it used to be, with light residual sweetness, nice cherry juice, touch of spice and marzipan; the final is weaker than probably it was.
Still very good, no evident signs of oxidization.

Cold. Flat look, reddish amber. Wonderful fruity, cherry aroma, with spices, cinnamon overall. Good body structure, soft mouthfeel; sweet flavor, fruity and with the necessary acidity; no bitterness.
Complex and wonderful.

Cold. Red-amber color, no head, flat. Very nice cherry aroma, light Christmas spices, red grapes, bitter oranges, light cloves. Sweet, syrupy, but very well balanced by a citrus sourness. And in the end a background note of hop is a pleasant surprise.
Hot. The alcohol punch in the nose is a good reminder of the cold days and the snow, but the flavor is less complex than when tasted colder, yet is very pleasant.
Cold, I would drink more and more. Hot, it can be replaced by many better nordic Grogg or hot China Martini (I'm a big fan of it).
