A burly export stout loaded with our bourbon barrel-aged coffee beans. We’ve had great success with Black House & Monsters’ Park dosed with barrel-aged coffee, but we wanted to design a beer from scratch specifically to feature these beans. Full-bodied and a touch sweet, City of the Dead will be explosively aromatic and saturated with barrel-aged coffee character.

From 650ml bottle at the Beer Jerk bottle share, thanks Matt. Pours deep brown to black with a tan cap. Cherry liqueur, coffee, toast, bit of vanilla, raspberry, touch of creaminess. Medium body, could take a touch less carbonation for my tastes. Tasty.

650ml bottle. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of coffee and chocolate. Taste of coffee, roasty, milk chocolate, hint of dark fruit, sweet with a roasty bitterness. Medium-full bodied, creamy and smooth, fine carbonation. Superb stout, tempted to drink the entire bottle myself.

Bomber, from Dan, and shared. Pours black, with a fairly large, foamy, tan head. The nose is mild coffee, vanilla, oak, caramel, and light peat. Sweet and malty, with a light bitterness that balances the beer quite nicely. Medium to heavy body, with an effervescent, grainy, and lightly syrupy mouthfeel. This is an easy, balanced, and quality stout.

650ml bottle at home, bottled June 2017. Pours completely black with some initial head, dissipation occurs quickly though. Aroma is absolutely lovely, a lot of roasty coffee, nice dark malts, some caramel and chocolate. A lot of bourbon in there too, which gives it a lovely edge and some vanilla. Medium to big body. Flavour is dominated strongly by coffee, but has a good malt base. Some caramel but mostly a rather clean malt profile. Really light still for 7.5%. The finish is all about the barrel aged coffee - bourbon and vanilla and lots of intense roastiness. So interesting, as I do feel a difference to most barrel-aged beers - I do taste that it's just the coffee which has been BA, as it's the coffee flavour which is rich and bourbony. Amazing beer!
